Hi, I have a 4runner 2003 with x-res suspension, and I need some help to locate the part numbers for the 4 shock absorbers, can someone help me?
I have called a few dealers and they are reluctant to provide me the original P/N's

I would advise you to replace XREAS with a different type of shock absorber.

I agree with Zopperman, it is far more beneficial to replace with some regular shocks. Pick your choice, but Bilstiens are very popular. The X-REAS system costs so much, and you will get a better ride with some regular shocks anyways. Just take off all the X stuff, won't hurt a single thing.

thank you for your response but why should I replace the x reas for a different type?
for the light use we have the with this 4runner, mostly highways, the performance has been excellent. Thank you

It's very finicky. you can only disconnect the system twice before EVERYTHING is supposed to be replaced (reservoirs, shocks, hoses etc. $$$$$)

Honestly, I just put my xreas out of its misery yesterday and the truck rides so much smoother. It's much easier to maintain and replace non-xreas shocks and I really see no detriment to perforce. In fact I prefer the ride of aftermarket as do many members.

I guess if you're just going to replace it once and expect that to last the rest of the life of the vehicle it wouldn't really matter. Read up around here a bit, I don't think anyone has ever gone aftermarket and wanted to switch back.

Check out the stickies ...
Billsteins are probably the most popular simply because of their value. For the money, you really can't beat'em. There are other options, namely OME, ICOn and Fox for shocks. Fr springs most people do the FJ coil swap (see that stickey thread) if you want a near stock ride height. adding spacers will give you some lift.

If you can wait 3-4 months I'll sell you the xreas off my 2005 when I install my lift kit. Right now it's perfectly functional.

If you can't wait, I'd recommend billsteins front (adj) and rear. (shop around the vendors that sponsor this site... they all have great deals around 350 shipped for the combo) as well as upgrading your sway bar bushings and rear endlinks to poly (prothane or energy suspension sell universal, greasable ones. Most guys buy these from summitt or jegs as they offer free shipping with no minimal order). It'd be the best $400 bucks you ever spent for all of that. It'd probably handle eerily similar or better than your stock x-reas does right now AND it'd last longer...

I think once you price out the replacement parts fir Xreas you will ponder other options. Xreas is great when new, but when I dies it is time to replace with standard dampers.

how replacing x reas, can you keep the springs and just used the bilstiens shocks? or do you have to replace the springs also?

The coils have nothing to do with xreas. you can reuse the oem coils should you choose to do so with billies. I personally wouldn't do that much work just to put back the used coils though. might as well at least get new oem 4runner or fj coils.
