So let me start out by saying I apologize for the lengthy post..
Now:
Currently located in MD, however, in about a month or so if all goes as planned I will be returning back to Breckenridge, CO. In order to get back out there obviously I needed 4WD. So I sold the motorcycle (Daytona 675) and my car (modded Mazdaspeed 3). About 2 months ago I got lucky and a family friend was selling her Runner so I purchased a 2005 V8 SR5 with 75k miles on it. After extensive lurking on the forum I was able to gather copious amounts of info. PO did a great job of taking care of the vehicle and only drove it on long trips to the beach and in the snow. However, did not take care of the undercarriage very well, and in MD, that's a no-no with the ridiculous amount of salt they lay down here.
Which brings me to my question...
I'm hoping to start a lot of wheeling trips, camping, etc when I get out there. I would like to do a full OME setup with a 1" or 1.5" BL. and do it right the first time. I considered a Cornfed 3/2 but with install it seemed that I should just nut up and get the OME setup and do it myself. For tires I'd like to do a 285/70/17 setup and narrowed it down to the Duratracs or the Trail Grapplers. Obviously I'll be trimming away and hopefully not have to touch the body mount too much but I am prepared if I have to. I think for wheels I'm just going to get some Pro Comp steelies 17x8? Still trying to do the math and narrow down exactly what size I'm gunna go with. Id rather not mess with spacers and from what I understand I'd need a wheel with an offset of about -12 and backspacing around a 4.5? Forgive me if I'm wrong but its not exactly my area of expertise. So basically my question is, does it make sense to do all of this BEFORE I drive my rig XC? I have the money now I'm just worried I'm gonna get out there and put everything on the back-burner. How many of the forum members have driven their rigs XC with a full lift/tires? Took me approx 29 hours the last time I made the haul, so I just want everything to go smoothly. I'm worried about the "wandering" aspect with the new setup, and without new UCA's I hope when I get it aligned that they do a good job and get it reasonably within spec. So save my money and use it towards PM as timing belt, water pump etc will be within my near future? Or get this damn thing done already? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Everyone on here has been awesome and provided me with some great info so far!
Thanks!
