Xenon Depot 4300k HID milky substance in bulb.

Just wondering if this is normal, I'm pretty sure it isnt, the bulb gave me a bit of difficulty, it turned on nicely initially then the second test it wouldnt go on, now tried one more time and it went on again. I don't trust this bulb so I'm thinking ill call xenon depot on monday and ask for replacements.

Any idea what this is? it isnt normal is it? the glass should be perfectly clear.

Im going to go check both bulbs again and see if they are both milky.

hopefully xenon depot can get me replacements quick.

there shouldnt be anything milky in the bulb. i'd call back and ask for replacement.

Over time the glass phere where the reaction happens in the center of the bulbs gets cloudy or milky. If that's it then it's normal.

yeah thats what it looks like, I tried to take a picture but I have a crappy point and shoot and the sun was shining on it so I couldnt get a nice picture, but that is essentially what it looks like.

did they send me used bulbs? shouldnt it be clear if it hasnt been used?

I believe that only happens after the bulb has been used but I could be wrong.

That's supposed to be there. That milky substance is the salts that the bulb uses to ignite. I can't remember where I read that information but I do know all bulbs have varying amounts of that milky powdery substance in them. Some may even have different colors.

thats odd, i have had 6 sets of HID's and none of mine have had that

All HID bulbs are filled with a mixture of xenon gas, mercury and metal halide salts. This is most likely what you are seeing inside your HID bulb and it is completely normal.

By the way, I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade to HID's. I paired the Philips 4300k Extreme HID's with the Putco Jet Yellow halogen fog lights and it looks really good. nice clean light. Also the compents are well made, I just had to buy a couple extra pieces of 3M double sided sticky pads for the ignitors.

The HID's make it seem like you're driving with your high beams on but with projectors the beam is focused really nicely, just make sure you have your headlights adjusted to be pointing in the right directions.
