XREAS replacement - what's the simplest solution?

Hey all, yes, I've been through several threads on this subject. I have a 2004 4Runner Ltd V8 (140k miles) with the XREAS system and would like to consider some new shocks. I don't do any offroading and I don't need a lift. I just want a nice city/highway ride and the kicker, I'd prefer to NOT have to search around on Internet forums for some used FJ springs.

Are there any shocks that I can just buy and take into a shop and have them put in for me that will take care of the whole swap out and give me a nice ride? Without having to hunt for someone's springs? I think the 5100's have to be used with the springs?

I just swapped mine out with KYB GR-2 shocks and struts. No frills, just a straight swap out. Got them at Rock auto and had my tech throw them on in place of the XREAS system that was leaking.

Yes. I also used the KYB quickstrut complete assembly for the front and rear KYB shocks with Moog springs from rock auto in the rear. I bought the parts and had a local shop do the removal and install. The ride quality improved dramatically. The xreas was obviously shot.

The front left and right are different part numbers. The rear use the same part number for both sides shocks and springs.

KYB:
Front right: KYB Part # SR4131
Front left: KYB Part # SR4130

Rear Shocks: KYB Part # 344410
Rear Springs: MOOG Part # 81045

Look them up on rockauto.com to see the pics and specs.

Those are what I just put on my 06.

I know most of you do your own work here, but it's just not my thing. What would I be aiming for, to have a shop put these in and remove the XREAS? A couple hundred?

I had a shop do the work. I was quoted $530 for labor including alignment... It was a little high for me, but i didnt feel like dealing with rusted bolts for an entire weekend working alone.

Wow that's high!!! I paid my tech $100 and he did it at his house one evening.

I'm ready to do this same thing. I tow a 6x12 trailer from time to time. Should I get a heavier duty springs, and if so, which ones would you recommend? Like you, I want a good ride but don't want to overwork the suspension when towing. Thanks!
 
I just put in FJ Cruiser front struts/coil and KYB shocks in the rear and could not be happier. I don't off road and use my truck as a daily driver.

I installed OE springs but you could use some heavier duty springs especially in the rear say from an FJ... if you are towing a heavy trailer and want to prevent sagging.

I am happy with the ride in mine. I think the normal springs are fine. You could put on some bilstein HD shocks in the rear for the towing...

Price. A replacement XREAS system would be 2-3x the cost of going a full bilstein suspension. XREAS limits how much you can lift. So for cheaper price of changing to new suspension, you get added options.
