Yet another stolen cat, Sacramento and surrounding areas beware

I know its been mentioned several times, but its worth mentioning again. My catalytic was stolen sometime 2 weeks ago. Like everyone else I was smoking mad, but I had a vacation planned and wasn't able to fix until today. I purchased an after market CAT for my 1997 4runner. I hope this is less tasteful for thieves...

They took my O2 sensor as well (that I recently replaced from the dealer) for last year's smog test, so I installed my old/bad sensor back in until I can buy a new one. Check engine light is on for now, but its driveable. The muffler shop offered to weld re-bar wires throughout the piping for $85 to slow down or deter the thieves, but I am hoping they just don't like the aftermarket cat...

Talking to the muffler guy, he said, aftermarket cats only sells at scrap yards for about $20 and factory sells for over $100.

How did it happen? Did they get it sitting in the driveway?

It happend in front of my house. I live in a very quiet cul de sac, it possibly happend while i'm at work or at night. I understand they have very quiet pipe cutters. I dont drive the runner daily.

Put a brand new toyota cat in that thing. And a sweet stereo system.

And a two way paging alarm system.

Buy a deer rifle.

End the problem.

This stuff is ridiculous. It makes me lose faith in the human race. Some people have no respect. It's hard to believe whoever does this stuff even has a mother.

Mine was stolen less than a few months after I bought my truck, right out of my driveway. My aunt's was taken a couple months before that, off her Taco. In a parking garage, with CAMERAS. It was too dark to clearly see who did it though.

It's so frustrating as hell, especially considering the Sheriff's department is so understaffed that they just shrug it off and don't do a damn thing. No extra patrol in the area, no fingerprinting (I'm sure they touched the side of my truck... it was in the dust!!). It's just ridiculous.

People suck.

Yeah, they don't do much. I have set up 2 cameras to watch the runner, if they do come back around, hopefully one of them will get a glimpse of the face.

Ill solve the prob when I come out to Sactown in April, Ill park in a dark area where they will try to get my cat.

Ill lay in the back and as soon as I hear someone start to cut Ill turn on the 4runner and leave. Would be too bad if they got run over by some 35's!

Im sure they would still be there for the cops when they get there... If not Ill "accidentally" back into whatever car they were driving. My tow hitch is sitting about the level to do maximum damage to their vehicle and should protect mine pretty well. using the excuse that I was scared of carjackers and just trying to get away seems pretty plausible... plus, its hard to see little cars in the rear view mirror, better excuse than I didnt see it in front of me right?

Maybe that kind of consequence would make them think before they climbed under another 4runner?

then again, Ill make sure Im not in Citrus Heights, those cops would prob let the bad guys go even if they got caught red handed.

for reals though, thanks for the reminder, Ill have to be super careful where I park/leave my 4runner on my 2 week trip to Oregon/Cali and back

Ha Ha this would be good ! I think we all dream of doing that when having something stolen from us !
That really sucks though people are out there doing that,you would think some of these scrap yards would get a clue too and not being paying the same thief coming in every other day with a cat.

A scrapyard near Sackatomatoes did get busted full on, but all these scumbags need to be stopped. I just bought a catclamp for $100 even, I'm gonna put that on and not worry about it. Cali is one of the out of control places, but there are SO many T4R's in my area, they will just move on to unprotected ones...
