2019 ORP stolen in Seattle

Hey folks, my 2019 offroad premium kdss got stolen broad daylight right from my driveway as I was in my open garage getting my dog on leash. I gave immediate chase and was almost able to grab the driver door handle but he floored it and got away. The truck has 34000 miles on it, in mint condition, and has extended warranty. Insurance will be willing to declare it a total loss after 7 days if not recovered. Does anyone know what would be current market value and what I could expect as a payout? I've never dealt with total loss/theft before.

I had some mods in such as icon stage 2, oemaudio kit w/ sub, lockerdown console safe, kenwood headunit + dashcam, gunner dog crate, rsg offroad sliders and skids, XD headlights/fog/cabin lights..

Thanks, be safe out there.

So an update, Please help if you have any advice/opinion! thanks!!!: Posting one of my later replies here to get more eyeballs on it as I could use some help making a decision...

2.5 days later I got a call from the cops 2 towns over (Renton aka Fenton), they found my truck at 3am, the thief overdosed in it at a 711 and had music blasting at full volume. They revived and arrested him for simple misdemeanor possession of stolen property and he was released an hour later.

I get to my truck and take a look, inside smells like cat piss, cigs, and cologne, full of personal belongings, burglary tools, stolen dewalt drills, a wig, suitcases of dirty clothing, a giant meth pipe, some crack pipes, a drug scale, and lots of foil sheets with burnt fentanyl residue. looks like the shithead moved in from his tent into my truck at least for the 2 days he had it, plates and stickers were removed, my 1000$ gunner dog kennel also gone. Overall the truck does no appear to have major damage, interior has a couple of cig burns and meth/heroin/whatever powder and crystals in various crevices, cracked windshield...dash trim was ripped up a bit as he was trying to get behind the kenwood headunit. It doesnt appear to have actually been pissed in, leaving the windows down while in my garage for a week got rid of most of the odor.

The dashcam recorded the entire theft, including the guy approaching the car and driving away - face visible and clear. He drove with the ebrake engaged for a solid 10 blocks, almost caused 3 accidents while initially getting away. At some point he ripped the dashcam off the windshield but left it dangling on the wire, it was facing backwards inside the truck and recorded hours of hilarious crackhead footage...meth and fentanyl smoking, lots of people in and out, mainly hanging out at various gas station minimarts according to gps stamps on the videos. I've provided some footage to Seattle PD, hoping to hear back from the detectives and get him that felony auto theft charge.

Dealing with insurance has been a nightmare. They initially scheduled an adjuster to come out to my house to look at the truck, but would not be getting inside or drive it because of "biohazard" and fentanyl hysteria. My appointment then was suddenly cancelled and now they want to total the truck without even looking at it. It's a 2019 ORP w/ 30k miles on it and honestly just needs a good cleaning and a trip to Toyota for an inspection. However, they almost insist on totaling but are unable to provide me with the value I'd be getting paid without first towing it to a salvage yard. My options seem to be the following:

1) total the truck, get it off my property and take the money, amount unknown
2) keep the truck, get money to redo the entire interior
3) total the truck, keep it but w/ a salvage title, get paid out a lesser amount than fair value, but not by much.

Anyone have any idea of how to best proceed? I'm 99% sure there's actually nothing wrong with the truck mechanically, due to my upgraded ICON struts and skids. The alignment seems to be fine, engine sounds normal, transmission behaving normal. I think option 2 would be the wisest choice, as the truck value is right around 40k, and I could easily get a check for 8-10 for repairs/cleanup. Option 3 is good if I keep it forever until its junk, otherwise selling it w/ a salvage title would be a pain. Option 1 is not yet clear, because I dont know how much they're willing to give me for a 2019 ORP with 30k on it.

Sad but you can almost never get your mods back. Insurance will only pay for lowest market value. Adjuster will find couple comparable market analysis and low ball you. Good luck.

first - that sucks , really does. I hope you find your vehicle (or maybe you don't want to find it). I've seen them get pretty hacked up from thieves that are going to ship them overseas. I wouldn't want mine returned to me needing new electrical wiring because certain components were disabled

second - read your insurance policy. this is the only way to answer coverage questions. did you only buy liability or comprehensive coverage. next time, if you are upgrading your rig and want to protect those upgrades call ahead and ask, have it documented in the policy even. Most of the time it's not worth the additional premium to insure things like suspension or bike racks, etc. you may need a special addition to your policy for aftermarket items. some insurers will just flat out refuse coverage. it is unlikely the insurance company will pay you much for your mods. you might be able to get a little extra for them but don't count on market value especially if no addition was made to the policy

Sorry, that really sucks. F thieves!

Just curious, how was the thief able to get it?

Could be, like many cars, stays running without key fob in it and no lockout and no timeout.

My wife once drove an hour away and left the fob at home.

I pulled my truck out of the garage left it running, got out and went to the back of the truck in garage to get my dog in the crate, as Im putting the leash on the dog I hear someone jump in the front seat, I immediately know whats up but because my garage is so narrow and the 4runner is wide, I have to run around through the house to the front door to get outside adding 2-3 seconds. he slams the door shut as I bust out of my front door and floors it, I give a good chase but run into the recycling bins in the alley and he just floors it out onto the main street, didnt even slow down, mfer got really lucky.

I have State Farm full coverage. My agent told me to keep ALL receipts of any mods including material used and they would cover it.

However, I live in a small town in South Carolina, so best bet is to ask your agent and read the policy. I am sorry this happened to you. In broad daylight no less. smh

Ah good to know, I also have state-farm. They say 7 days from incident until its declared lost and I get a check. Did they low ball you on vehicle value?

So sorry this happened to you!!!
This is pretty insane.
Not that this would prevent anything, but I keep and Apple AirTag hidden inside my rig so I can track it if it get's stolen, towed or I forget where I parked at the Airport.

Wow that really sucks for OP. This is also what my State Farm agent told me. Keep all receipts and State Farm covers everything "bolted on" to the vehicle.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply my vehicle was/has been stolen. I was just stating what my agent has told me in the past, small town and all.

Check the area for comparable vehicles. Print what you find to negotiate with insurance company. Your thief probably looking for a ride. Unfortunately you probably don't want it back if found. The high likely hood of meth usage in stolen vehicles would detour me from a return.

Was your house keys part of the theft?

Daaaannnggg it.... will try and keep an eye out for it, I'm north of Seattle but ya never know.

Definitely start gathering comps for your insurance

Sound like you need a CCW for that neighborhood.
