Yet another tire thread...

So I've had my 4Runner for a couple weeks now. I've been researching tires lately. It's got 3 different kinds on it now!! I have to change that.

I'm trying to decide between either Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's and General Grabber AT2's. Duratracs just aren't in the budget right now. Opinions on one vs. the other? Both are under $750 mounted and balanced. I'm planning to move to upstate SC in the mountains, so I will probably be offroad maybe 15% of the time (don't plan on rock crawling). I won't expect more than light snow in the winter. I'm thinking both tires will suite my needs.

I just got a Budget Boost Daystar 1" kit in the mail and my tire guy offered to put it on for free!

Anyway, I am looking to put on 265/70/17's and I've read the lift/tire guide! Anyone running this size with no modifications AND no rubbing? The guide says I may have to remove mud flaps, that would be no problem. Anything else I should consider? I'm hoping not to have to cut any fenders...

Those are about 1/2" smaller diameter and width from the size I want. Pretty close but I don't have FJ springs. I've read most folks got a little height out of the springs, a few didn't. Do you think you got anything out of the springs? OEM or aftermarket?

Revo's all the way! If you were off road more if say grabbers or something else entirely but revo's are an excellent all around tire. I am running 265/70/17 Cooper ATP's and I rub slightly on the front but that is with 165k on a stock suspension so there is no doubt some sag factored into that. I did just order the 1" spacer to so hopefully that will fix it up until I can save up the scratch for bilsteins and fj springs.

Ya, the tire shop owner swears by the Revo's. He says they last longer than the warranty. Tempted to get them, they are about $40 cheaper.
On my wife's Touareg, she has the Bridge Dueler HT's. They seem to be a pretty good tire, but we've only put about 5k miles on them.

I have Grabber AT2's on my truck and overall I think they are a pretty good tire (snow, rain, some mud) but probably a bit of overkill for a vehicle that spends 90% of it's time on the road.

My 4runner has Dueler HT's on it now and I've not been that impressed with them in the snow.

My next set for the 4runner will probably be either Revo 2's or Cooper AT3's

Decisions decisions.

I am considering 255/70/17's instead of the 265's. I'm just getting worried I'll need to get wheel spacers with the 265's.
I see some guys running the BFG's in the 265/70/17's with no issues and stock height.

Should I be concerned about this?

I really like the look of the Grabbers, little more aggressive.

I had good luck with the Revo 2 in the past. If they were available when I needed tires last time I would have purchased them. I opted for the Nitto instead as I had good luck with it in the past too.

Got 'er done.
Grabbers 265/70/17's and a Daystar Budget 1" boost. Tires just barely fit, width wise.
Looks like the boost gave me a couple inches and I'm within 1/2" from level. Much better!!

What year 4runner do you have, and are you able to use any FJ springs in general? Ive got daystar 2.5/1.5 level now, wouldn't mind better ride quality if I can do it on a budget.

Not to get off topic but spending a tad more on BFG ATs will result in longer tread life and although they are not flashy and new, they are proven and drive well on and offroad for most needs. Between the two I would def say the General Grabbers...almost identical tire to BFG AT but less tread life. Best of luck on getting them!

I've had both General all terrains and a couple sets of BFGs before. For the money, I'm willing to go with the Generals. I had them on an old Wagoneer long ago and held up well.

These now come with a 65k mile warranty, so hard to go wrong with that! If they last 70k, I'll be more than happy and by that time, I'll be wanting something new anyway! Maybe the price of Duratracs will go down by then.
