I have the 285/65/18 XLTs and they have been great. I did end up buying a dedicated snow tire this year (Toyo GSI-6) but snow traction was my only minor gripe, but then again the size I have isnt snowflake rated. I think they are a great tire, especially if you can get them on sale.

I couldn't find a recent thread dedicated to the Yokohama so I thought I would throw this in here. I am on my third year with the GO15s, about 40,000 miles now, and the tires are down to the first wear bar.
The snow performance has gone down significantly this winter, compared to the last two winters on them. Especially in the greasy slush that happens on chemically treated roads with only a couple inches of snow. The first two winters I thought they were nearly as good as dedicated snows. This winter, they slide a lot more, and the rear end feels really loose at times, even on a neutral throttle. They are also getting noisy on certain types of road surfaces. Smooth blacktop is the worst.
I will use them the rest of this winter, but they will definitely be getting replaced by fall of this year.

I have the g015's on mine now in 285/70/17. These replaced Toyo AT3's that were really pretty awful. Chopped BAD even with 5k mile rotations and after 20k miles they were well below half tread. I had been eyeing these Yokos as I wanted something a little less aggressive and in late October Discount tire had them for like $174 each! So I of course bought them. I have probably 6k miles on these now and I really like them. I've driven on unplowed roads, and today I went snowboarding the morning after a noreaster. They were fine. And they are dead silent. I'm on 285's so my mileage at best is 17-18 and that hasn't changed with these.

I’ve never ran the Coopers but I currently have the G015 with about 7k miles on them and I love them. They are great in the dry, rain, and snow. I’m spending this winter in New Hampshire and so far they have performed great.
On the stock tires, I had various levels of steering shake for the first four years of owning my 4Runner. Even after multiple balances of the stock Dunlops, the shake persisted. Once I got ride of them and got the G015s, no more shake!! They balanced great and are super smooth! I only wish I hadn’t suffered through the terrible Dunlops for as long as I did before getting the Yokohamas.

I just had Bilstein 6112s set at 2", and Bilstein rear coils 1.5" with 5100s installed. I decided to go with the Cooper AT3 4S this time in a 255/75. The Yokohamas weren't bad, but at 40K miles they had definitely lost a lot of performance, especially in snow. We'll see how the Coopers hold up.

I had stock size Geo's on last year for about 500 miles. They were quiet and light, so mileage was good. They looked tiny though. I went to KO2's in 255/75 and have been happy with those. I keep wondering if I should have gone with 285/70 Geo's.

I have put the Cooper Discoverer AT3 on 2 of my previous vehicles (wrangler and xTerra).
I just put the Yokohama g015 on my 4Runner and so far I prefer them... but who knows how they will hold up over time. (A lot of people like to talk about how poorly the Cooper's wear)

I don't have any empirical data to support any claims, but if you're on the fence between the two please choose Cooper. They are one of only two American made AND OWNED tire manufacturers left in this country. They are technically owned by Goodyear (the other American company) but still operate independently under their own branding (obviously). Choose American when you can. It means a lot more than you think it does...
That sounds great. But we are on a website dedicated to a Japanese SUV...
FWIW, I've yet to own a Goodyear tire I was impressed with.

I vote Yokos.
Mostly because I'm putting on X-ATs next next week. Stock size. The Toyota-centric shop that's putting them on (Krave), swears by them. Most of the employees there run Yokos on their trucks (with X-ATs or G003).

....I can only speak about the Yokos...put a set on in the spring this year in the stock size...and so far I am rather impressed with how quiet they are...how good on and off-road, as they seem to absorb bumps and potholes nicely...and they have been really good in the snow so far...so much that I did not put on my Blizzak-2s for this winter season...

I vote for the Coopers...they look good, are tough, handle snow pretty well, and off road too
the only con...they are loud at speed on pavement and seem to be difficult for service centers to balance. i ran with a little steering wheel wiggle for about 2 months before finding someplace to properly balance them.
