Let's see the phone mounts

Now that i've installed my pioneer 4100nex and wondering where everyone is mounting their cell phones?

I've searched through pages and haven't seen many options of how people are mounting their phones? I've had my 4th gen for 5 years now nd I'm tired of the phone sliding around on the console tray.

I'm looking at RAM mounts and the magnetic ball mounts? Anyone have either? Thoughts?

I have been a long time RAM user on motorcycles. They are rock solid and with all of their parts, you can find a way to mount anywhere you want. Out of curiosity I tried something new recently. Magnetic mount that fits into the CD player. I don't use CDs and I don't like the vent clips that block off a whole vent. Here is the result:

Mounted is a Fire HD8 tablet just for reference. It is strong enough to hold this no problem. With my phone there, both vents are able to be used and not really hit the phone. I would say RAM is more secure but also more bulky and heavier. Depends on your needs but both are good option!

The mounting disk is larger than it needs to be, but I already had one lying around. I don't see it when the phone is on the mount so I don't particularly care about it.

I am a fan of the Iottie suction cup mounts -- good product and great customer service. Jalopnik readers are probably familiar with them as they frequently advertise on the site.

My only gripe is that the best place I've found to mount them is the passenger side of the center console next to the cupholders -- so Every. Single. Time. a passenger gets in, they knock it off with their knee.

I'll grab a picture of mine later.

Basically, I bent some flat steel about 2" wide and attached it to the back of the headunit. Places it right above the headunit but not blocking view like it would on the dash. Attached a rotating magnet mount.

EDIT: Here are the pictures. Currently have my brake controller monitor there instead of the phone mount.

I mounted a RAM ball on the lower bolt of the drivers A-Pillar grab handle. An arm and their XGrip works a treat for holding my phone. I put an AOB USB below and a short charging cable later and it's my day to day GPS. I only whip out the Garmin for when I leave town (to insure navigation in the absence of data). Down the road I'd like to upgrade the head unit to one that has a USB input. The AOB USB has two ports. Power only and a USB pass through. That would eliminate the 1/8" extension cable coming from the center console, draping over the steering column up to the phone for audio playback.

I have a couple of different amazon "wizgear" magnetic like [MENTION=155163]noclue90[/MENTION] has. I love them. Here is my newest, I like it best so far, had the same but mounted to air vent. With my 7+ it moved some, this new one holds strong. Will get wife's phone and take a holding pic

I don't know about Quebec, but this is illegal in BC... the letter of the law lets the fuzz nail you just the same as if it were in your hand setting up a tinder date while doing 90 down the #1.

A phone can exist in 3 states in a vehicle: A) in an enclosed box/bag/out of sight and secure. B) Secured to the vehicle and not blocking sight lines out of the windows. or C) In your pocket.

Also like mavericks ram mount for my garmin gps for offroading. I have been using Ram mounts on my dirtbikes for years without issue. Even flipped the bike and cracked a mount, they sent me a replacement no questions asked.

someone made a thread singing praises about this one a while ago. can't seem to find it, but looking at it now it looks like it's for dirtbikes. the description says you can install it on a RAM ball, but for $99 i'd like something i can install on my dash. i just want something that sits tight on my dash, or suction to the windshield, that i can use for maps and time lapses.

As others have said I rock the amazon wizgear. Have a permanent mount on my dash in my vehicle, but also have the vent mounts in the mrs' car. Cheap and effective.

I've been using the proclip vent mount unit. Pretty convenient other than not allowing use of a phone case. The mount and phone stayed where they belonged in the collision that totaled my '09 SR5.

So now it's mounted in my 'new' 2007...

I have a Ram mount and love it. I like their website for figuring out the best solution. They have a ton of options. The round base is almost the exact same diameter as the 4wd selector. I put a small backing behind the dash (probably not needed) but it strong enough to hold an iPad. The setup works great with the Gaia app with some downloaded maps.

Bryan, thanks for the side pics that really helps me understand how it's mounted. I may combine that mount with the RAM. Not super excited about drilling my console for the RAM mount. Bonus is I have mount with setup for my Garmin already on the dirtbike.
