Let's see the phone mounts

I have one of these in each car. In the 4R it's mounted below the hazard switch (seems to be the common area)

We have metal strips in all our phones and even the iPad. I have a mount on a kitchen cabinet door as well to hang the ipad mini to use as a recipe "card" even.

I've only ever had my phone pop off on the rare, VERY BIG bump.

Ironically my wife just bought a caw car magnetic phone mount for her car without my knowledge. Is anyone using the smaller ball style in their 4runner?

Here's mine (no phone in it in these pics). I got the Proclip vent mount. It does block the air flow from this vent so I've been trying to come up with a new mounting solution that puts the phone in the same area but allows this AC to vent to still blow on me. I do like proclip mounts though as they are non destructive to your vehicle and very sturdy.

I have the pioneer 4100nex and love it. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate a mounting point in the stereo trim kit I have so as to not cause permanent damage to my dash trim. I'd rather ruin a $15 stereo trim kit that is replaceable than put a hole in my dash trim.

I had ordered one from Amazon but wasn't able to find a good flat spot to mount in a position I wanted. As far as strong enough, it definitely was for my iPhone 6 Plus

Noclue, funny you mentioned finding a good spot with that small magnet caw car because I just borrowed the mount and placed it all over the car with my phone. Below the hazard seems a touch too far, below the 4wd its ar a bad angle. I'm kind of thinking behind the ash tray so I can get my hand on it quickly. In my 2003 4runner i would just sit it on the tray and it would slide everywhere. That's why when I got my new to me 07 i started this thread, to find a good spot.

Keep in mind I'm loving my pioneer 4100nex that displays my phone map and everything else on the phone with apple car play.

I use a RAM suction mount on the windshield, a RAM arm and their X-Grip. Works great and has never fallen off, even in some gnarly whoops. It doesn't block my view there either. (The camera is below my eye level.)

I started with a RAM X Mount and I liked it for a long time, but then I learned of the WizGear magnetic mounts and immediately fell in love, so I modified my X Mount and ended up with this...

I'm considering their CD player mount, but so far I like this setup. It's close enough to the steering wheel that I can touch the phone without taking my hands off the wheel, but also without hitting the phone while steering.

Note than the RAM arm is resting against the dash. This prevents any shaking while off-road. Love it!

My understanding was that windshield mounts like that were illegal in California. That is, that you could only mount it in either bottom corner. Have you had any issues because of that?

Mines right below the rear view mirror.
Serves a few purposes. Eye level when Using Waze and also good for when I use it as a dash cam.

I honestly don't know. I've had it mounted there, as well as my GPS, for years without any issue. I've had CHP and local cops look me over while passing or at lights and I've never been stopped for it. Although it may not look like it in the pictures, it is mounted low enough that it doesn't interfere at all with me seeing out the window. Also, in that location it's more in my line of sight. If it is in the lower left corner, I would have to take my eyes off the road to look at it.

I have a friend who is a cop and I'll check with him.

Edit: Checked with cop friend. He said my phone is illegal where mounted and that I should be tazed, in the face, for putting it there. Needless to say, I'm keeping it there. :lol:

In all seriousness, I will probably switch to a mount on the dash surround like S4TA has his mounted. I was planning on doing that to mount a tablet for navigation anyways.

I'm running the ram suction cup in that location-it holds on road, but obviously not offroad. I think I'll do the permanent mount there, but I've also been tempted by the floor mount. More work to do that though.

Finally settled on the new wizgear larger square mount below the hazzards. Great spot and great mount. Thanks for all the help guys, there were so many options I just wanted feedback and that's exactly what I got. Thanks again

Hi, I am having some trouble with this particular ProClip mount 853221. After inserting the curved edge on the left and flipping it around toward the right (step 2), I get an unsightly gap of about 4mm (.15") between the panel and the bezel just above the mount.

Your installation looks really good. Did you do anything to prevent a gap from forming?

For now, I did not insert the curved edge and am relying on the adhesive tape on that side.

Not sure if it'll hold up to a 300g (10oz) handheld radio on a dirt road, though. If there is a problem, I might try stronger mounting tape unless someone has a better solution.

(I have also been using the ProClip 853562 vent mount for several years without any issues.)

Got this off of amazon I'm thinking. It works well and sticks well.

I've had it for over a year in 100+ and 20 below temps. No problems.

I have a Ram mount and love it. I like their website for figuring out the best solution. They have a ton of options. The round base is almost the exact same diameter as the 4wd selector. I put a small backing behind the dash (probably not needed) but it strong enough to hold an iPad. The setup works great with the Gaia app with some downloaded maps.

What did you use for a backing plate?

Pro-clip mount. Solid, kept the phone in place when I was in the collision. Mounted in the 'new' 4runner
