Matt's 07 - Build to the perfect Daily Driven wheeler

Sorry, it's just the battery light.

I'm fairly certain it's the alternator going out since I smell smoke from it, and it's making a high-pitched sound. But in anycase...

If the charge fuse is blown, would it still be charging? I can still run the car, but it'll hover around 11v when giving it some gas, and then drop to 10v. I'd imagine a blown charge fuse mean it's not charging at all. How it's acting, makes me believe it's just a dying alternator, that's just not putting out enough amps.

alternator is all bad. on the v6, its easy to change out.

Yea, luckily I've pulled the alternator when I did the tensioner, so it should be a breeze. Only problem is that I reside in an apartment, and they're strict as hell.. Meh.. Just hope it gets here before the weekend!

pretty sure you can do some work in the autozone or orileys parking lot. if not you might need to do a sidewalk job. just make sure you are parked at a dead end. and have some cones.

That's what I thought, until I moved up to Sac. Apparently they don't even allow someone to do a wiper install there when I asked them.

Sidewalk job ftw. Will post pics when it's being done. ha

Well, somethings new in here..

Finally got to swap my alternator. Came in early saturday morning, and did the work past midnight.. Took all of about 1hr. Would've been faster if I hadn't had to use a dim light and could actually see what I was doing...

Also, now I know one of my neighbors is a snitch... Some lady came by and started taking pics. As I was packing up my tools, Security rolled in, and asked me if I was working on my car..... meh....

Went wheeling with some Norcal 4R guys at Prairie City and a dirt trail. Got some sweet pics... Also, managed to damage my rear bumper... I think nows a good time to invest into something a bit more steel like...

Had a little fun with another t4r member today at Prairie City.

Finally made use of my sliders. Of all the places, didn't think Prairie City would be the place I'd use them. hehe

Long Canyon Road

Ran Long Canyon Road with the T4R guys a week back. Sweet views. Amazing trail. Good times. Got to hit my sliders hard, which felt amazing.

Eastern Sierras 3 day run

Nothing will ever beat the Eastern Sierras. Even though it's a crazy long 6 hr+ drive to Lone Pine from Sacramento, It's well worth it. This weekend alone, I racked about 1200mi's on the rig. It was a solo trip since my friends had something come up, but damn was it fun.

Those look like some sweet camping spots.... need to make it out there some day.

The truck needed some maintenance after the trips i've done so far...

On the list was...

-Brake fluid bleed
-Air Filter
-HCF Delete

Hmmm... The air filter definitely needed replacement..

HCF delete. No noticeable differences so far...

Also... Forgot to make this post, but I did a front sway bar delete a few weeks back.
AJuK1j3.jpg

Got a few comments on this...
It drives like when I had stock suspension, with my current setup. It is boaty, and leans more in corners, but it feels way nicer to drive. There's virtually no bump steer since the front two wheels aren't connected. It's nice as when it bump steered with the front sway bar, it was a bit unsettling. However, I've noticed that if you hit a bump hard enough mid corner without the sway bar, the whole truck sways. It's a bit of a wake up, and different, but you get used to it.

Driving manners:
On road
-Off throttle turn in/mid corner, it really sways and leans. And when you stay off throttle in the corner, it really wants to understeer.
-On throttle turn in/mid corner, the front leans, but the rear wants to come out. By no means is it wanting to rotate, but you can feel the rear wanting to come out a bit.
-Off throttle turn in, on throttle mid corner exit, the truck leans, but once you slowly roll onto the throttle, it feels really neutral and gives me confidence through the corner.
-The ride isn't as harsh, and feels like a caddy.... To some extent...

Off road
-On wash board dirt roads and dirt trails, it feels WAY better. The ride isn't as harsh, and gives me way more confidence to go faster
-Technical stuff. More articulation. Less off you getting thrown. It's nice.

1.5" Wheel Spacer install + Fender Trimming

Got some Ebay wheel spacers that some other T4R members recommended. I opted to go with 1.5" wheel spacers. Don't have any pics of during the install, but I used a wire brush to clean up the hub, and used anti-seize on the face of the hub, where the spacer would touch. Used some loctite, on the nuts that hold the spacer onto the hub.

Looks really good now :p

Thanks for posting this. Couple weeks back I was looking at some quick disconnects for the sway bars but really, I need to disconnect and/or take them out first and see if I even like it with the front or rear disconnected. I run trails a lot so I’m trying to decide if this is something that would be beneficial for me. Your post is the first I’ve seen that really describes how the vehicle feels afterwards, so thanks for that. Gives me more of a push to want to try it.

I might try disconnecting them and just zip tie them up out of harms way just to get a feel for it.

Stance on your rig looks great too!

Glad it helped.

Yea the biggest problem I had was no one even talked about how the truck drove afterwards, other than it leaned more, or that it was "better".

IMO, I would just take that whole bar off so you don't risk binding it on something and end up damaging something. It literally took me 10minutes to do. :bigok: Hope your experience is just as good as mine.

True, I’d rather not take that risk now that you mention it. Definitely gonna do some testing this week if the weather holds up, thanks man.

Well.. My Cobra 19 DX IV unit died. I tired diagnosing it and trying to figure out what went wrong, but everything looks fine. So I just opted to save myself the headache and go pick up a Uniden Pro520XL. The unit feels a lot better, and more sold. Doesn't feel cheap at all, like the Cobra.

I opted to mount it right under the steering wheel, since I could see it, easily operate it(when needed), and the wiring would look stealthy.

Rerouting the Antenna cable, and you can also kind of see my wiring harness. I used a Deans connector so that I can easily disconnect the CB when I'm in a bad part of town or something...
