I ordered a injector service kit and pulled the injectors from the spare engine. I'm going to do the home cleaning and install new filter screens in them.
These are called 4 hole on the 96-98 but in reality their not. There is still only 1 pintle under the 4 hole hat. The two side holes I believe are a place to draw air from the slot in the injector cavity to keep air flowing through the hat it looks like to prevent dripping or whatever. I see a slot in the injector cavity. May investigate the slots. Hech, it may lead to the two vacuum ports on the back side of the intake that connect the the IAC outlet.
As I expected that little port in the injector cavity is tied to the nipple that goes to the IAC. So the air at idle is getting pulled into the cylinders via the injectors. Another good reason to have good o-rings and seals on your injectors.
I wonder if the 99 and up intake has the same setup?
all 6 injectors are done. The spray only comes out of the two big holes. With manifold vacuum pulling air through the injector hat I'm sure the spray pattern will be different. I did each injector twice.
Step 1 install the screw into the inlet filter and pull it out
Step 2 get new filter and place in inlet of injector.
Step 3 Tap in place with small hammer until flush with top.
These are the old filters. Note one is different. Sometime in its life this engine had a bad injector and they bought a reman. I marked the injector with a zip tie.
So knobing around drinking a beer I looked into the rust bubble on the drivers front rocker. The rocker drains were plugged. I needed a hammer and small screwdriver to punch a hole into the drain.
New nut holders are awesome. I installed the repainted hitch on the puppy hauler. I'm making another set for my 4Runner. But this time I'll look for 12mm 1.25 pitch bolts for me.
My engine guy sent me a picture of some surface rust today. So he’s actually working on it.
He’s going to bead blast the rust and then flush out all the oil passages. He was drilling out the ball bearing plugs with an endmill to open the passages for flushing when I called. Finally progress.
Well I got the call the block is done. It cost 1362.00.
Block needed work with 258,000 miles on it.
Main Crank bearings was line honed.
Rod ends resized
Block bead blasted inside and out
Oil passages flushed and replugged
Pistons were cleaned and look new.
New freeze out plugs.
The pistons were cruddy. The rings were stuck in their ring lands, and all the oil rings had their drain back holes completely blocked with oil coking.
Yesterday I attempted to put the oil pump on. My torque wrench never kicked and I broke a bolt.
Today I tried again and got them torqued to 22ftlbs. I couldn’t get the wrench to klick when I set it to 31. With a regular ratchet they are real tight.
There is gasket maker on the threads. It may be acting as a lube on the threads. I’ll remove each bolt tomorrow or Sunday and clean the threads and try and retorque. Or I’ll just leave it as tight as I have it now.
It’s the factory bolt and the FSM says 31 foot pounds. I need to look up max torque for a 10mm and 8mm bolt. I think the bolt is 10mm or an odd ball 9mm
