How common are oil leaks/seepage in the 5th gen?

Long story short wifes 2014 SR5 Premium w/ 182k miles is totaled and insurance used dealership surveys to determine it has minor seepage from the timing chain cover and valve cover gasket.

As a result they are deducting $2500 from the value and saying its only worth $16,500

I am pushing back and arguing that this is common/normal/minor for a high mileage vehicle, and I have never been told at any dealer service that my oil was low or needed topping off.

Many 2014-2015 T4R’s within 500 mile radius are listed for over 20k, even as high as 23k and many are standard SR5 not Premium, and I’m willing to bet they all have some minor seepage unless it was repaired.

Thus, is this pretty common/known for the 5th gen? I did try searching but got mixed results

I think they are fairly common for where the covers meet. There might be evidence on YouTube as well.

Sorry you're having to deal with all of that crap. Hopefully nobody was hurt.

To answer your question, what dealership survey? Did they inspect YOUR car? Or, just that it is common? I'd tell them to PROVE that your car is leaking to support that claim.

But, to counter that...sadly my 2021 4Runner has a leak around the timing chain cover. Only has 31k miles on it too. Fighting with the dealership and Corp Toyota for a goodwill repair as I'm only 2 mos out of warranty.
