Took some GPS measurements against the odometer with the new gears. The odometer now pretty much reads dead on (0.7% fast if you want to be exact -- I can live with that) while the speedometer reads a little high: 70mph reading = 67mph actual. This is a pretty good spot.

Drain/fill of Walmart 80W-90 at 400 miles:

I'll give it another 1000 miles or so before switching to synthetic.

My clutch fork boot was getting pretty weird looking and not really staying in the square hole in the bellhousing. I pulled the slave cylinder and popped a new one in (part 31126-26020) and found it was pretty tricky to get it to seat into the bellhousing.

Thought it was home but took a picture from the back where you can't see:

Not quite. After some gentle prodding with a small screwdriver it found its happy spot:

No ABS on your rig?

That's exactly how they read from the factory. (Odo correct, speedo reads high)

No ABS, has the speed sensor at the output of the tcase.

About 700 more miles and the wear metals are very minor. Switched back to synth.

The rear u-joint had a catch in it so I proactively replaced it with the help of [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] and here's the video!

He took plenty of pictures and video of the process but here's the old one

I replaced it with part 04371-60070. It worked out great and now with 1000+ miles on it and some wheeling I feel confident the install was done right *phew*

I installed a Subaru Forester field monitor unit (or gauge pack) in the lower DIN mount. Took a bit of work to figure out where to hook up the wiring including the speed sensor which it needs to work. It has an outside temp gauge which is pretty cool.

Experimented with a few different bulb options since the stock ones are a little dim. Still not sure I've hit on the right solution.

While I had everything apart I made little brackets to mount the ScanGauge using the ash tray screws.

Thanks folks! It's great that this Subie unit uses US units like F and feet.

The two little blue stripes on the side move when the car moves and are somewhat related to speed. They are fun to watch in a retro-cool kind of way.

One advantage of this setup over the Hilux FMU is that the Subaru stuff is more common so it's not quite as expensive.

Ran the Mojave Rd back in January. High-speed driving in sand wore off the paint on the leading edges of my Stubbs sliders. Got a little touch up this weekend:

I also found that my mount for my Midland CB radio was less than optimal. A flash of inspiration yielded the idea to fab a bracket that sits next to the passenger side transmission hump. After some sawing, drilling, sanding, and painting... here it is having its paint cured with the space heater on low

The bracket is held on with two of the big screws that hold down the inner shifter boot. It's very solid mounted here. RAM Mounts makes a great little plastic bracket that holds this radio. I bolted it on in four places with 8-32 screws

Trim back in place and radio installed

Did you paint the Antero rack? Looks to be black. Either, it looks good up there. Curious to see what you mount to it...

Hey Tony, thanks! I need to see what an Auto/4WD looks like with the center trim pulled up to know where a bracket could mount. Want to take a picture for me?

For the rack I just painted the sides with basic black spray paint. The cross bars are black anodized from Rocky Mtn. I mounted some FuelPax cans up there and the rack did well. Working now on making some more tie-down points to increase functionality.

Ah, good point on the auto/4wd. Might be best to take a photo and some measurements too. When I pop-off that center piece again, I'll make sure to do so...

The rack looks good in black. The cross bars being anodized should hold-up well. Not sure what you are using to secure loads, but I am quite happy with these cam locks:

There are some creative ways to use them. I have several, and while I've only used them a couple times, I'm quite happy with them. Figured I'd share. They are sold at THD also...

Tony - haven't thought much about lights really. Might look at moving my CB antenna up there but that would be for another day.

Speaking of CB, another little mini-mod I did was to add a support foot to the T4R bracket I have. I have a Firestik "Fire Ring" coax cable which uses a pass-through bolt. With a swivel foot mount and a little tweaking I managed to make it be a support against the bumper.
