Hey guys, just wanted to give back to the community and during my 5th gen brake conversion I did an immense amount of research and wanted this info to rest somewhere other than my brain. I hope this comes in handy to anyone who needs it.

FRONT CALIPER COMPARISON
SUMMARY/SYNOPSIS
4TH GEN FRONT CALIPER - There are two sizes depending on trim level
- 13WG Stamping - Smallest 4th gen front calipers (SR5 Trim) with 12mm mounting bolt, require 319mm 4th gen rotors
- 13WH Stamping - Largest 4th gen front calipers (Limited or Sport Trim) with 12mm mounting bolt, require 338mm 4th gen rotors
- Both(13WG & 13WH) have 45.5mm pistons
- Both(13WG & 13WH) use the same brake pads (4th and 5th gen brake pads are the same size regardless of trim but different part numbers due to a manufacturer change)
- Both 4th & 5th gen use the same brake line thread size (M10 x 1.0)
- If you have the 13WG (SR5) caliper, you will need to cut or swap out your brake dust shield for a larger one from either the 4th gen or 5th gen 4Runner
- If you have the 13WH (Sport/Limited) caliper, your brake dust shield is big enough to clear the 4th/5th gen 338mm rotors
- The 5th gen 4Runner front dust shield was redesigned so it has openings for air to enter must easier and recommended
- The brakes lines between the 4th and 5th gen are under different part numbers but are pretty much identical except for a few minor differences. Both work.
5TH GEN FRONT CALIPER - There is only one size regardless of trim level but there was a change in mounting bolt size around 2013
- 14WA Stamping - 5th gen front calipers (All trims) with 12mm mounting bolt, require 338mm 5th gen rotors, 2010 - 2013 year range
- 14WB Stamping- 5th gen front calipers (All trims) with 14mm mounting bolt, require 338mm 5th gen rotors, 2013 - 2018 year range, *This will not work for 4th gen*
- Both(14WA & 14WB) have 48mm pistons
- Both(14WA & 14WB) use the same brake pads (4th and 5th gen brake pads are the same size but different part numbers due to a manufacturer change)
- Both(14WA & 14WB) use the same banjo bolt & thread size for the brake hose
- You can use the 4th gen rotors although the 5th gen caliper pistons will over-extend which is not recommended or safe
- You cannot use the 5th gen rotors on 4th gen calipers as the 5th gen rotors are thicker and won't fit
- The 5th gen 4Runner front dust shield was redesigned so it has openings for air to enter must easier and recommended
- The brakes lines between the 4th and 5th gen are under different part numbers but are pretty much identical except for a few minor differences. Both work.

FRONT BRAKE PAD COMPARISON
SUMMARY/SYNOPSIS
4TH GEN FRONT BRAKE PAD - There is only one pad regardless of trim level/rotor size
5TH GEN FRONT BRAKE PAD - There is only one pad regardless of trim level/rotor size
- 4th gen front brake pads are made by Sumitomo
* I find to prefer these simply because they still use metals in the pads such as copper and wear evently compared to the 5th gen pads made by Advics
- 5th gen front brake pads are made by Advics
* These tend create light and dark streaks on the rotor. I'm guessing the compounds in the Advics pads are not well mixed. These have less to no metals used per a discussion I had with a Toyota parts person. They stated that copper is being eliminated from pads to lessen the impact on the environment.

REAR ROTOR COMPARISON:
NOTE: Due to the difference in hub hole diameter size between the 4th and 5th gen rear rotors, use the 4th gen rear rotor in order for it to center properly. That is the only difference between the two generations. Using the 5th gen rotor will cause the rotor to shift causing it to grab the parking brake shoes causing a clicking sound. This will eventually ruin your parking brake. Some members have stated that the studs centre the rotor; that is incorrect in the sense that the studs only centre rims using the OEM lug nuts. The holes in the rear rotors for the studs have a bigger diameter than the studs and if the centre bore of the rotor is bigger than the hub on the vehicle, then the rotor essentially "floats". Once the brakes are applied the rotor is shifted/dragged out of place and basically wobbles hitting the parking brake. It will keep shifting in and out of centre. Some have tried to centre the rotor by hand and put on the wheels gently..unfortunately the amount of weight that is transferred to the rotors will cause them to shift. Torquing the lug nuts to sandwhich the rotors better will only cause warping of your rotors or worse, your studs will snap off. Don't risk your life over a few dollars. There's no gain with the 5th gen rear rotors as the only differene is the bigger diameter hub hole.
