OK. Finished running my test and here is what I did and my results:
(I opened the cooler a few times per day to mimic actual use)
July 23:
With cooler prechilled (on AC), with two water bottles and two gel packs frozen, I set the cooler to 25 degrees F and plugged it into the Jackery 500 charged to 100% at 10:40 am.
4:00 pm: Set to 32 degrees F.
8:00 pm: Jackery is at 77%.
July 24:
8:15 am: Jackery at 56%
10:45 am: Jackery at 51%
4:15 pm: Jackery at 41%
8:20 pm: Jackery at 32%
10:20 pm: Jackery at 28%
July 25:
7:40 am: Jackery at 9%
Plugged into Goal Zero 100 watt, but sky was pretty cloudy with sun only peeking out now and then.
11:20 am: 8%
12:40 pm: 7%
At this point, I started getting full sun and the Jackery shows 70 watts input from the GZ panel
3:20 pm: 13% (So the Jackery is being recharged while running the cooler at 32 degrees. I checked the temp occasionally and the cooler went as high as 36 degrees, and then back down to 32F. The rise in temp seemed to coincide with the low charge percentage on the Jackery, even though the Dometic display always showed over 13 volts.)
4:00 pm: 15%
4:30 pm: 18%
Unplugged cooler.
5:15 pm: 21%
Unplugged solar panel. End of test.
Please note that the cooler was in my garage (not air conditioned and 94 degrees outside during the day, down to about 78 at night), so in “the shade”.
The cooler was not full of food and drinks, so will be more efficient it was.
The water bottles were about still half ice the morning of the 25th, and the gel packs were still mostly frozen.
I ran the Dometic off of the DC output, NOT the AC.
Hope this information helps anyone considering a portable battery, fridge, solar panel, or any combination of those.
