Hey guys and gals,
I'm building the back of my 4-Runner out into a home, and I'm moving to Nome Alaska next year to mine gold for 2 - 3 years. I'll be living out of my vehicle during the summer while on the beach mining sands, and I've got a really nice build going (not GLAMOUR, but functionality). I'll describe the build, but first I need help...as the title says...choosing a telescoping ladder for reaching a Thule large container up top.
I'm 6'1" and about 250lbs (for ladder reference) and my Prinsu roof rack is 6.5 feet from the ground. I've noticed the side of the 4runner arcs out which means the ladder will need to be planted a few feet away, so that it leans onto the roof rack without hitting the vehicle. I've never used one of those type ladders, so I don't want to get OVERKILL and have one that is way too big (as I'm trying to minimalize). With that being said, I don't want to "under purchase" and get one that is too weak . I know a lot of you have experience with this sort of thing so I am turning towards your advice. I appreciate any help you can give me with it. (I'll probably be purchasing from Amazon for it)
NOW for the build...
I'll do a walk around video with pictures to post here once its done, but for now I'll describe what it has.
- 27" x 72" bed platform (3" more length at the head totaling 75")that lifts one half into a reclining position for reading or laptop. At the hatchback end it has a 3"dpth x 24" wde x 28" pull out draw with a sliding cutting board.
- left of the bed at the hatch back end is a double decker drawer housing a camp stove/pans, bowls, utensils. On top of that is a 24" shaped top that holds a microwave and rice cooker.
- On the right side back door I have a 11 gallon frontrunner water tank with 12v pump to an attachable (via roofrack) 32" circular shower w/shower curtain.
- On the left side back door I have a 3.2 cubic ft 2 door mini fridge/freezer.
- Also between the fridge and the camp stove drawers is a 7,200 watt Eco Flow Delta Pro power station w/ two 400 watt solar panels.
- I have two 5 outlet power strips, each with individual lighted on/off switches
- Battery Tender hooked up and turned on with flip of a switch at any time supplied by the power station, if sitting for 1-2 weeks without going anywhere.
- 3/4" plywood ceiling shelves and mounting purposes with a perimeter string lighting
- Various shelves once I see how much leftover space is available.
I'm currently about halfway done, and a few things I'll have to get my cousin to help with (he's a mechanic and car restorer). One of those is that rear hatch opening switch that I read by seantrewick on here. Thank you for that build. I sure hope I don't mess it up.
