If you typically mess with intakes check this out: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=40340 The other thing I would offer is to oil carefully if you use a K&N style filter. The 4th gens like clean MAF sensors.

What kind of mileage did you get out of old T4R? Without knowing cruise speed, load and terrain 21mpg sounds pretty good. I wouldn't hold my breath for a lot more based on fresh gas.
