Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

The odd part about that is that it has the Sequoia. So that's a north america only vehicle. But it also says "crown" goes on sale later in the year. That would be a big surprise to see a Toyota Crown go on sale in the USA.

The Crown SUV is literally just a highlander. So maybe it's a highlander trim?

And there's the Crown sedan - but it's like a base model GS350 that sold very poorly. And the GS was axed. The Crown sedan is supposed to end production in 2022 and the Crown SUV be the replacement. I'm not sure there's a market for a sedan slotted between camry, avalon, and ES350. I'm not really sure there's even a viable long term market for those sedans other than maybe the Camry continuing on.

Is there really a market for a $65-70k highlander to fit between the current highlander and the RX350? I don't see it. But who knows.

Just spitballing - maybe the GS/Crown that was ultimately used as the hydrogen Mirai will become a luxury EV sedan under the name Crown? That's the best I can come up with for something existing under the "crown" nameplate. It's already an EV platform. Just swap hydrogen fuel cell and tank for batteries.

I vote for the Land Cruiser front. Looks much better. I just bought a 2022 4Runner and love the looks ...all but the front end storm trooper grill.

Well Andre at TFL spied the new 2023/2024 Tacoma, sibling to the 2023/2024 4Runner. Does anyone have any insight from the photos?

Insights:
It will be uglier than the current generation.
It will have a drive train with less HP and torque than the current generation.
If they manage to prove me wrong on #2 it will still have less power than all of its competitors.
The extended cab will have less legroom.
It will only come in lime green and electric blue.
All accessories will be barbie pink.
It will have a better radio than the current generation and it will have 3 blink turn signals.
Fan boys will ignore all of this and rave about how amazing it is.

Had seen this mock up on Instagram of the 6th gen a couple days ago. Looks like they the 1st gen with the removeable back. Not too bad looking, but I will always love my 5th

So the pixel warrior imagines the 6th gen 4Runner with a removable roof, must be smoking something.

On the other hand, maybe Toyota wants to join the Bronco bandwagon, if so, lets hope they can design removable roofs unlike the Ford cluster.

The rear window frame they have in the first image wouldn't work with a removable roof. Pretty basic stuff really.

The 2023 Highlander is losing the V6 and getting the 2.4 turbo. 263 hp and 309 torque. Hard to imagine the 4Runner or Tacoma with 263 hp.

I like that pixel warrior rendering a lot better than the youtube engineer dude's rendering. Trim it down a bit through the midsection, get rid of the bulbous look.
All I'm reading/ seeing though makes me want to buy a 2023 4x4 and call it good for several years. Heck maybe buy a 2024.25 4runner, might still be a 5th gen.
Toyota needs to get the new 4runner right though, and I hope they do.

The same engines is making 275 hp and 317 torque in the Lexus nx, so I'd imagine they will tweak/tune the engine depending on the application.

2023 Fauxtieth Anniversary

Who is Toyota USA kidding with this? This is a cynical marketing grab, because they cannot stop frothing at the mouth, at the ridiculous PROFIT they are getting out of this vehicle! Last year was a landmark record for the nameplate, in the middle of a damn pandemic!

People accuse Ford of doing things, both wrong in many cases and right in some cases, yet this borrows from a past playbook I greatly disliked.

I remember when such BS came out, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of a nameplate, launched April 17, 1964 as a 1965 model.

Yet, this was unveiled in April 2003 for 2004 model year.

All despite a good thing already going with this new teaser, from Detroit '03.

Why did they do this? To get easy BS sales, by using the outgoing model 1 year too early, for an anniversary edition and not roping it all into the new model, which would be in limited supply.

The real 40th anniversary car, appeared right here on January 5, 2004 and went on sale in October 2004.

They fixed it thankfully in 2014, by NOT cheating like Toyota has here:

Toyota knows for a fact, that the 1984 1/2 4Runner was launched in May 1984, to indirectly replace the FJ40 below the flagship 60, since the J70 was in limbo for North America and Toyota Motor Sales USA wasn't serious.

How stupid do they think their buyers are? The 2023 4Runner goes on sale in October 2022, unlike the redesigned 2024 model which hits dealers in spring 2024. Ironic you say? Spring 2024, against Spring 1984... They should saved this 40th Anniversary edition for the 2024 model year, but of course not. Cheat and grab some easy sales instead, with fake 40th anniversary premature edition. I should start celebrating my birthday 1.5 years earlier, by that logic of theirs.

Never underestimate how sleezy marketing departments can get when they are running behind schedule. Slap some new paint and stickers on and have an instant excuse why you're late and the 6th gen 4Runner has been delayed.

So, Carmaker1, are you now saying they are 2 1/2 years behind schedule?
1) Initially Reported Intro: Fall 2021 as a 2022 model.
2) Then the slip to become a 2023 model, assumed to intro in the fall of 2022.
3) Now, a possible slip for intro to Spring 2024 as a 2024 1/2 model (skipping CY23 altogether)?

Indeed, because I fight with them even over here, on how they obscure automotive engineering and product planning from the public, as an intellectual property risk-aversion. Keep the buyers ignorant, nevermind many are much smarter than they would ever imagine.

Yes, this is correct.

Once I had gotten confirmation much of 2020, that it was a go for MY 2023, I pretty much let off the gas (for TNGA-F research), until I was told in a forum space in June 2021, it was delayed again.

After vetting that for accuracy by July/August, guy was dead accurate and I made it my mission, to get that info out there as incognito as possible. I didn't succeed, because the "2023" narrative kept on going and amplified even further, by clickbait nonsense.

Prior to mid-2019, per Toyota product planning, it was this:

  • New Land Cruiser 300 - 2020
  • New Tundra - October 2020
  • New Sequoia - Spring 2021
  • New 4Runner - Q4 2021
  • New Tacoma - Q3 2022

I learned in the fall of 2019, they had all been delayed by 14 months. Tundra was now December 2021. Somehow Toyota braved the pandemic and chip shortage, to release the new Tundra in December 2021 as planned since 2019. 2023 4Runner was the same deal.

I was told in June 2021, not to expect it until early 2024. Looking at the Job 1 date, I see January 2024 and was told March 2024 by consequence. I say spring 2024, in case another 6-10 week delay isn't too unheard of.

FYI, according to DJinTN on Tacoma World, who has helped me multiple times fill in the blanks on insight I come across, has leaked the development code of this program. He is the first and only source online for this INFO. I had seen 930B, but had no idea what is was. It had no attached model name, just "Toyota 930B". No dates or platform info even listed, for me to connect any dots.

DJinTN, has given this info away, in a forum reply to me

930B = 2024 4Runner (Like 920B Tacoma)

This individual confirmed in January that the December 2023 Job 1 dates I saw were concrete and not an anomaly like I expressed last September.

This was an example of what I knew to be accurate in October 2019, via I posted on a Lexus forum.

I have never edited that post there ever, so gives you an idea (only mistake was MY for Venza) of where we were in late 2019, with no revisionist history on my part LOL.

I shock myself with how close I came, before things changed up 1 year later with delays. I knew about the Corolla Cross thanks to a contact, but to honor his confidentiality, I only substituted it for "C-HR redesign".

I read on the other forum 920b is the Tacoma code and 610l is the 4runner build code both 920b and 610l2(assuming that's the 6th gen 4runner code) are confirmed for the Mexico plant per toyota website with 610l2 slated to start jan 2024. 920b is slated to start October/November 2023. if 610l2 is indeed 6th gen then there it is

Yes, the job ad posted for the Mexico plant sounds pretty convincing that the 4R will be made in Mexico. I think the 610l is the 5th gen and they either didn't want to post the 6th gen code or didn't know what it was at the time the job ad went up. Either way it makes more sense to make the 4R in the same factory as the taco with most of the same parts.
