I bought this 2001 4runner with 133xxx miles about 2 months ago the frame is super clean only has some surface rust but the other day I was doing some deep cleaning and discovered this mess.

What should I do? Do I repair it? Can it even be repaired? Is it worth repairing? Really wish I saw this before purchasing.

I would say it depends on how the rest of the truck looks. For guys that put large (like 37") tires, they normally cut that area out anyways for clearance. If you search the forum for "tubbing the firewall" you'll see more. Anything can be fixed, it's just how worth it is it to you?

Head Gasket Failure Diagnosis

This video shows you one way to confirm a bad head gasket or cracked head by using a cylinder leakage tester with a cooling system pressure tester. This test only works if the suspected failure is related to cylinder pressure leaking into a coolant jacket.

I just got done doing my valve cover gaskets (they were awful) and adjusting valve shims. Thanks for your videos. They made it way easier than it could have been.

I did wrap the wire harness protector in tape like you mentioned, but it was so brittle after 27 years in the desert that it just crumbled anyways. I used this thread and wrapped the harness in silicone rescue tape, wire loom, and then metal brackets to hold it in place.

I've done headgaskets on old 60's jeeps, fairly straightforward. I'm glad you're doing a video for it, but an at least 5 parter makes me thing it's way more complicated than a 60 year old 4 cylinder!

This head gasket series is going to be 7 parts. It's not a hard job, just time consuming. We broke it into 7 parts to make it a little more palatable. We like to show every detail possible to enable people to be successful.
