Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

Imo that protruding item in the center doesn't look like headlights. It looks like an embossed TOYOTA grille. What looks to be a round headlight is in my opinion just the extruded frame bezel.

To continue to stir the speculation pot, I've noticed a couple of details that are more than likely minor, but I still find interesting.

1. It doesn't appear to have a roof rack or even rough rails. If you look at the photos of the new GX, there is a flushed roof rail and a more aggressive one found on the Overtail. In all photos I've seen in the GX, you can barely see the shark fin antenna, but it's clearly visible in both photos. Can you even option a new Toyota 4x4 without roof rails?

2. In both photos, the vehicle doesn't have a spoiler. Even the new Tacoma has a spoiler at the back of the cab.

3. The photo with the LC on what appears to appear be on the Salt Flats, the design team at Toyota has enhanced the glow of the sun to potentially hide the roof line.

I agree with the speculation that something is up with the roof.

1. I'd guess this would be something like the 70/80 series where the roof has no rails, you have to use clips. Furthermore, I agree that the shark-fin generally looks off, like they photoshopped it in there. Also, what's up with the sun-roof area bulge? This bulge does not appear present in the GX photos.
2. If this were to call-on the design of the 70/80 series, there wouldn't be a spoiler. You also wonder if there's no spoiler because it's got a split rear door, where a spoiler wouldn't work.
3. With the comment from TexasFunRunner above, something is off with the widths of the rear window splits; making me think there's something optional/trim related going all the way up to the roof. Removable? One can dream.

Generally, this cannot be a carbon-copy of the GX, and then also undifferentiated from the 2025 4Runner. There just must be some big differences; enough to merit an entirely new model. A lot of people seem to be dragging it back to a GX clone, but I have to believe it will be differentiated, and retro, or else their heritage-campaign just wouldn't make any sense. Personally, I think we'll have some indentations across the side panels like the 60/70.

Just, friendly speculation in the speculation thread :)

When you look at the original high resolution images direct from Toyota, the other thing I notice are the shadows seem to be at the wrong angle for the direction of the sun. In the light image the sun is 15 degrees to the right of center yet the shadows are straight. In the dark photo, the sun is centered on the new model hood, yet the shadows are angling in the opposite directions. So, it's clear the backgrounds are CGI, I wonder if the vehicles themselves are CGI, that would explain some of the oddities in the images, like the lower air dam (forward of the front tire, marked in red below), a straight on black line, definitely cgi.

Regarding the roof bump, agreed, very odd, perhaps a roof rail mounting pad(?) or they may have gone with the 2nd gen Tacoma Roof Rail design mounts, a sure way to sell roof rails (see install link below).

KimchiJae great comparison of the FJ60/FJ80 for the rear D-Pillar area wrapping around to the tailgate, that looks like a match. Regarding the much hoped for round lights, perhaps they are mixing heritages. I say this based on their first tease here and with the new tease showing the FJ40.

I'd be happily surprised if Toyota was adding certain features to the photos to throw off the internet investigators like ourselves. One thing I have considered for a while is that Toyota wouldn't do a full removable top, but instead would do a hard top with the rollable cover like you can option on the Jeep Wrangler rubicon. From my perspective, Toyota might not have been able to justify the costs for redesigning the prado to have the full roof come off, and Toyota always seems to go for the happy middle ground instead of offering everything the competitors do. As a disclaimer, I'm no way an engineer and have very little understanding of vehicle development.

Perhaps it is time to move the LC discussion?

While I am truly interested in the Land Cruiser speculation and Internet-sleuthing, this seems to be a bit off topic.

Here is the latest update for the upcoming Toyota SUV models, a big thanks to Carmaker1 for sharing much of the background information.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 250
Revealed: Aug 1, 2023
Launch: Q2 2024
Engines: i-Force MAX 2.4L Turbo I-4 Hybrid

2025 Toyota 6th gen 4Runner (Tacoma influenced)
Reveal: Q1 2024 (teasers start 4 - 6 weeks ahead of reveal)
Launch: Q3 2024
Engines: 2.4L turbo I-4, i-Force MAX 2.4T I-4 hybrid, alleged PHEV, No TTV6

Latest Rendering: Carscoops is out with a new rendering as of 7/31/2023, you can see how it corrects some of the shortcomings the CarBuzz rendering had.

Insiders said the CarBuzz rendering was close but needed, a) needs to be more angular, like the new Tacoma. b) The Tacoma headlight design is extremely similar, but 4Runner has a different curvature than the Tacoma units. c) The C-Pillar is more upright for better ease of entry and a slopped D-Pillar.

Bonus Round:
2024/25 Compact Cruiser 4x4 & Stout Pickup
Reveal: 2024
Launch: 2024
Platform: TNGA-C unibody (shared RAV4 elements)
Engines: Hybrid or EV, depending on what the US gets.
Compact Cruiser published photo, Stout Pickup into TBD

This valuable thread has grown to over 80 pages since it was started. Besides the original intent of only covering the often delayed, but upcoming 6th gen 4Runner, Toyota has added other interesting 4x4 models to their line-up which forum members has been discussing for over a year. These include, the 2024 Land Cruiser, the 2024 Lexus GX and even the upcoming Compact Cruiser 4x4.

Can you please consider changing the title to something more encompassing, such as:

Best Speculation of the 2024 Land Cruiser & 2025 6th gen 4Runner, etc.

Best Speculation of the 2025 6th gen 4Runner, 2024 Land Cruiser, etc.

Yes; that's a great thought. If there were a removable front panel on the roof; that would explain the front roof bulge in the photos. Like the Wrangler, there could be a range of options; like a roll top, soft top, and clear top. This would also explain why there's no roof rails in the teaser photo.

Gotta make road noise terrible with these things right? Would be surprised to see Toyota going that route.

I’d be a fan of some safari-inspired panoramic window but I feel like we’re looking at a good old fashioned moon roof, no?

yeah I don't want removable roof panels since I prefer to not hear wind noise driving the freeway to the trail heads. Big reason I am not considering a Bronco currently.

I would like to third and agree that I don't want removable panels either. Otherwise a Bronco already checks off everything I would want from an SUV. Don't like the NVH and the inevitable repairs when gaskets and seals dry up and naturally get worn out.

I highly doubt Toyota will go the removable top/panels game. The Bronco and Wrangler have that market totally saturated now. They'd lose more customers than they would gain if they went that route.

As a separate vehicle though, I've always wished Toyota would make their version of a 2-door Wrangler. My only problem with the Wrangler is the caliber of company that makes it (....and I'd prefer IFS).

Right, if that’s what I wanted I’d be in a Bronco already.

As a side note it was objectively funny that people were thinking the GX was going to have a T-top of some kind. Goes against every principle of Lexus’ staid focus on quality and comfort.

GX has a panoramic roof option. I'd guess the LC shares the same option for the roof since they appear to be a shared product. Would be very easy for Toyota to take the pano roof and make it one or two removeable panels. Not sure it's very likely that they will, but the structure is already there. So it's possible to do without major engineering work on the body structure.

However - the bump you see there is the stamping in the non-sunroof roof panel. You can see below that the GX550 without the sunroof has an separate set of stamped structural elements up front. If you look close you can also see the three mounting points for the roof rack with the rubber caps on them on the image without the sunroof. I'd bet that that is the same roof in the teaser image (no sunroof, no roof rack):

I am curious what is going on here in the silhouette below. It's a profile that doesn't match any other Toyota model I'm aware of. My guess is that it's a photoshop issue. But I also thought that when I saw leaf springs in some of the Tacoma profiles and it turned out they are still using leaf springs on some models. So - what could that be? It's not the right profile or general shape for front radius arms - or not if they are anything like any other Toyota models with a solid axle. And it's too low for a skid plate or a transmission to hang. So...??? I have no idea.
