Need Advice from you all......

Forum members,

My name is Karen. My husband, who you knew as 'Nacho' (real name Gary) passed away on Oct.17. He had been ill for a long time. He was a wonderful man and don't know how I'll carry on without him. I'm in L.A. with my family trying to heal, but need to sell Gary's 4rnr, and even though he taught me A TON about the awesome rig, I don't know how to price it. I think he has a pic of it that comes up on his posts.

It's a 2000 'limited' (i think), TRD w/ super charger, 3.4lt. auto, air, pwr windows, locks , air, airbags, etc. Good to excellent cond, tow pkg, custom pulleys, separate tranny radiator cooler, gold trim, amongst all the other bells and whistles. Tires are good- could probably use new wheels for cosmetic reasons only, otherwise nearly pristine for a 2000 with 120,000 original miles. Just made the trip from the Oregon Coast to L.A. flawlessly. We've only run premium in her, ever ! I even have the lower manifold and plenum back home, if somebody wants to make her stock again.

I don't want to sell her, she was my hubby's baby- next to me. But, need to sell her to be sensible. I would love to sell her to another 'Yodahead' like my husband.

Please advise. Thanks for ANY help, K

Karen,

I am very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you have been through and what lies ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I commend you on your courage through these times. It must be hard to have to sell something that was clearly of large sentimental worth to your husband.

.

With the 4Runner, it is not a limited, it is an SR5. But between the low-ish miles, the supercharger, new tires, and the maintenance history, I think you can still pull a pretty penny for it.

My advice would be to start it at around $8.5k.. maybe $9k and see where it goes from there.

Best of luck and God bless,
Jim

Karen,

I am very sorry of hearing of the passing of Nacho. My condolences to all family and friends.

I think Jim put everything else into perspective quite well. Given there are many Southern Cal members on here, they may be able to give a more accurate value of the 4runner to local perspective buyers as well as market to sell it in.

God bless,

John

thank you 4 ripcord for your kind words and advice. Will be using the general concensus of the forum to eventually make my decision. Someone told my sister that these are hard to find and in demand, but I don't know this person. I KNOW that Gary trusted all of you.

Thank you ,John. I knew you guys were the RIGHT people to turn to. What about Carmax? Are they a rip off or should I sell on Craig's list or something ?

im not sure how long you plan to be in LA or what the market is like for them down there, but i know up here in the portland area you could probably pull $9-10k for it, dont let it go for under 8.5, hold out, someone will buy it.

and i think i ripcord said it best we are all very sorry for you loss, our(i think i can speak for all of us on here) condolences to you your family and friends who all knew Gary personally.

and please if you have anymore questions or concerns about selling it or if you change you mind and decide to keep it feel free to ask any and or all of us, its no both/problem at all

what ever you do, DO NOT sell it to a dealer of any sort, they will "jew" you down and give you a low ball bottom dollar way under value for the truck. sell it private party you gill get a lot more $$$ for it. id say larger cities are where you are going to get the most for it, and along the west coast seams to be the highest market value for them. yes a 3rd gen SC'd low mileage good condition 4runner is hard to find. so your friend is right.

Karen,
I'm so sorry to hear about Gary, my condolences to you and your family.

That is a very nice 4runner, and it's one of the most sought after years. It has a lot of goodies on it too like the supercharger. I'm in Socal and I think the others are right on the money as far as what you should sell it for. I would ask $10K if it were mine and I don't think I'd take less than $9K for it. Similar 4runners with ~120K go for $8K+ all the time down here. The supercharger and other goodies bumps yours up at least $1-2K more. Good luck and be sure to tell the new owner about the forum too.

And I agree, don't go to Carmax or another dealer. You will have no problem selling a supercharged '00 4x4 privately through Craiglist or autotrader for a lot more than what they'll give you - especially in Socal. Put it up for sale in the classifieds on here too. Maybe even offer a $500 discount to a T4R member for some incentive?? Just throwing out some ideas..

Karen, I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you and your family the best. I think at this point you have all the 4Runner advice you need. But please don't hesitate to ask for anything you need.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Karen. You & your family are in our prayers. I can't see how you will push on.

I personally would keep it.

But it you really need to money, sell it on Craigslist. I sold mine to CarMax (A 2003 Highlander) and the gave me 2,000 dollars less than it was worth. If you were buying, I would go to CarMax. I would take it up there and see what they will give you, if they don't offer more than 8,500-9,000, walk away. I would list it on craigslist for 9,500 for have some wiggle room for you & the possable buyer. I would pay 9,000 for it if I were still in the market, but sadly I'm not. But if you ask me, 9,500-10,000 sound like a good place to start, so there is some wiggle room.

Karen,

Your post threw me for a loop. I've posted back and forth with Gary on the forum many times (because we both had supercharged 4Runners) and when I read the first line my eyes popped out because I saw the "My name is Karen" and I thought to myself "No way, Nacho is a lady?"

But then I read the next sentence, and the sad news. I am very sorry for your loss. If his nature online was any indication of his nature in person, I'm sure Gary was a great person and that he will be missed terribly.

While I never met him in person, he did give me a lesson in humility.... that I should never be so quick to judge, and that I should be more patient. When he first got on the forum, I got an attitude with him after answering several of his "newbie" questions. When he told me about his situation and explained that he was doing his best, I realized that you never know who's on the other side of the computer. That stuck with me. I've tried to me more patient since, and remember that everyone starts somewhere.

Good luck with the sale of the 4Runner, you could easily get 9k for it in my opinion, if you just hold out the right buyer will come along.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss, and hang in there.

Deeply sorry for your loss and my most sincere condolences. While I never met him face to face, he was always very courteous to deal with over the forums. I picked his brain a lot with the trials and tribulations that he dealt with on his supercharger.

As far as the price, I would think you should be able to get $9k at least. Like the kid said, prices seem to be a bit higher up here, so getting $10 would be totally feasible. I would start at $10k and go from there. Another option would be to remove the S/C and sell that separately. That mod is not like many other mods where it will lose a lot of value the second you put it on. You could get up to $1,500 for that alone.

Again. Sorry for your loss.

THANK YOU ALL for the loving words and sound advice."Nacho" always said what a GREAT group you were. He spent alot of time tinkering and tweeking 'Jade' (as we called her). This was his favorite thing to do to forget about his pain. It was probably the only time he felt 'normal'. And "Big Fish", i knew about you and how you helped him, heck, how you ALL helped him ! I wish I could keep her, but I can't. I need something smaller and more economical. But, of course, it will be a Toyota- without question ! Gary always wanted me to have a mid 90's Previa w/ alltrack , so that's what I'm looking for.
Thank you all so very much , again, and bless each and everyone of you.
Remember, hug and kiss the ones you love EVERYDAY-you just never know when it will be the last time you get to do that.

I too am very sorry for your loss Karen. He is in a better place. Stay strong and God Bless you and your family during these times.

I think all the guys have given you great advice. They KNOW what they are talking about. Post it here or iH8mud or yotatech in the classifieds section and you should be able to move it given its history, supercharger etc.

Best of luck with the Runner and do NOT hesitate to ask us anything at all.
