2000 SR5 rusty undercarriage, to buy or not, pls help

Hi my name is Rocko. After reading in this forum for a while i have decided to buy a 2000 4Runner.
I had a look at a few. It seems that a good one is hard to find in B.C. I´m looking for a 2000+ model with under 200000 km,
under 8000 Cad$, if possible maintenance records. Today i found one that i liked.
It doesn´t have records but seems to be taken care of. It has been with the second owner for twelve years.
I´m a little bit concerned about the rust on the undercarriage. It is not as bad as some pictures here on the forum.
Do you think that I can take care of it with some por-15 or should i stay away from it.
I know it is always pretty hard to give advice on the basis of pictures. The guy lives pretty far away and I´d like to know if it makes
sense to go there a second time.
Your help is much apreciated.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but that all looks like surface rust.

It doesn't look real bad, but nobody on the forum is going to be able to tell you it's a secure frame just from looking at pictures.

If you can borrow the truck from the current owner, either take it to a shop and have them do an inspection, or get under there with a screwdriver or small hammer and go over every inch of it yourself to be sure. It's probably fine, but frame issues aren't totally unheard of on trucks of this age, esp. up north, and you're going to be happier knowing you took the time to be sure before you put down the money.

But that much rust doesn't look too bad for as far north as you are.

Thanks for your answers. Seems like I have to make a thorough inspection of the underbody in a shop. I´d rather have one with less rust but that is kinda impossible up here.

id say thats pretty good. the places where it does sure i only see minimal surface on the welds. But, the rear axle is covered, that should not be a worry because its such thick metal that it wont rust out anytime soon.

id say its good enough that i would purchase it. then in the summer take some time and go to town on it with wire brush and some spray paint.

Looks better than most I have looked at in Canada overall. Of course there could be problem spots still but I'd say that's less than average rust.

Take a look at one from Canada's east coast!

The car which were brought over from the east coast have a reputation regarding rust. Thats why I try to find a local car.
