Sound Deadening Write-up

Appreciate all the heads up on headliner. Glad I just happened to make the right choice on that...

if you have the headliner down then yes, if not then don't pull down the headliner just to sound deaden.

I have a noisy rack so it did cut down wind noise for sure.

I also did the top of the moon roof sliding cover and that also helped. with the cover open you can really hear the wind noise.

I should also add I re-did the headliner and paved over with spray adhesive and the foam backed head liner material. I'm sure this also helped the roof rack wind noise.

when I think back all the things I have done to this poor truck.

What do you mean by "paved over"?

Good idea on the cup holders. I am all about that solid feeling. I may consider doing the roof at some point especially if I ever add a roof rack of some kind

it's crazy how much of a difference just little stuff like this makes in the feeling of the plastic.

I stuck some of that recycled cotton insulation into the void.

This is a cool idea. I ran into issues reassembling my cup holder/center console. The bottom surface of the cup holders sat too closet to the carpet underneath that any added material, either under the carpet or on the cup holder caused it not to fit. I actually had to go back and cut out some of the MLV I put there so I could get it back together.

I just read through this entire write-up, and I have to thank you. Most of the sound deadening threads are naturally related to audio, but you attacked it from the same POV that I am in that I just want a more luxury feel to the cabin. I also have realized that this is one DIY that I'm not doing myself just because it looks like it's a complete PITA so I'll be paying for install on this. Great thread!

Don't your door latches stick cause of the foam? I did this to my doors but now my front door latches stick sometimes. Especially when it's cold. I took every effort to make sure the latch mechanism is unobstructed and free to move. I kinda regret all of that time and money I spent tbh. It was definitely a pain for marginal improvement. I also broke the door clip retainer trying to get the MLV in. I gave up on that and just used the CLD tiles and called it a day.

All I know is my '01 Runner has far better sound deadening from the factory than my '15 Sequoia or '13 Kia (all models), have no idea how newer Runners are but if my Sequoia is any indication....
