Best way to disable key fob window button?

What would be the best way to disable the key fob button that controls the rear window? I have to dig up the key fob but been wondering what I could do to keep the rear window up. Can I physically remove the button?

I have an issue with the window button being triggered as I put the keys in my pocket. I think it has to do with the way my keys are set up. I once came out from work and my rear window was down and I have since removed the key fob and been an old fashioned key-er.

I have the same problem. Took my fob apart and decided it's probably easiest to JB Weld the switch, but I haven't done it yet.

I think a dot of Crazy Glue on the button (the one on the inside on the PCB, after you open the clamshell) would do the job just fine. It could then be reversed with a little acetone if desired....maybe.

JBWeld is great stuff, but maybe not the best for this job.

Nothing Wrong with being an Old Fashioned Key user (until the f-n panic goes off and the only way to disable it is leaving teh engine running or use the fob.) So was PISSED when this happened when borrowing my 4th Gen.

As for disabling the button. I'd just open up the fob and clip off or file down the nub on the back of the window down button that pushes switch on the board.

The arrow points to button nub that activates the switch, making it shorter will make the button harder to press to activate the panic button. the same would work for the window down button.

If you want this to be reverse-able you can just pick up a new case from Amazon for under $10 and mod the new case button.

I had the same problem with my 2000 3rd Gen. The occasional surprise open rear window. I removed the button from each of my two fobs, but that is not the solution. The Lock button would occasionally cause the rear window to roll down with the characteristic beep.

As I recall there was a recall, or TSB, that involved replacing the receiver unit in the rear door. By the time I heard about it I would have had to pay for it myself, so I just lived with it. Just pay attention to the window as you walk away after locking the truck with the remote.

I am not sure how the TSB fix would help me. It is just a matter of either my keys or swiss army knife pressing on the button. Does the TSB change it to a double click or something?

I cannot recall how many fobs I have but I think the PO handed me 4 to 6 of them so I have a few spares to play with.

I think I might go overkill on this. Maybe physically remove the button and JB weld a smooth round piece of aluminum over it.

No harm in trying to remove the button. I did but it didn’t solve my problem. I’d still get occasional window openings after I stopped the truck, pushed the lock button, put the remote in my pocket, and while walking away from the truck I’d notice the window is rolling down.
Then it happened several times when the remote was still in my hand.
It’s not the remote.
Or fat fingers or junk in your pocket.
It’s the receiver unit in the truck. It sometimes receives the unlock or lock code from the remote and additionally rolls down the window.
Toyota got lots of complaints and issued a TSB to replace the receiver and remote. Unfortunately it seems that lots of folks never heard about it, or heard about it after they were out of warranty. So there still are lots of vehicles out there that never got fixed.
You can probably still get it done at the dealer for several hundred dollars.
 
interesting, this has happened to me a few times over the past few years. One time it happened to come back to the truck in the morning to find the back full of snow.

All I did was replace the battery and clean the contacts, but maybe Ive just been lucky.
