Do I need to have my transmission shift points changed by Toyota?

As far as I know the dealership will not be able to reprogram any shift points. All the dealership can do is program with the factory transmission software (plus any updates that have been made to the software by Toyota to address any problems they may have discovered). I've never heard of anyone using an aftermarket transmission software to change shift points either. If you have an ECT button you can try driving around with that as it will change your shift points to higher rpms.
No, but it will change your shift points compared to not using ect.
That's all you can do without re-gearing.

The ECT Power button will raise the shift points under mild and moderate throttle by around 200-500 RPM's and will also hold higher RPM's before upshifting. Keeps the engine in the power band with no affect on MPG's so it's a win-win. You can keep it in that mode indefinitely, I've been using it non-stop for 4 years now.
I rarely drive my 4runner NOT in ECT mode. It wont hurt anything. But I drive in mountains a lot and like the ECT mode. When you try it and use it...you will see the benefit
of course don't use Od when climbing steep hills or back roads crawling
but on the rare occasions I am forced to be a city slicker. then I turn the ECT off
let those low shift points and early Od kick in for mpg...like it matters with these 4runners....not
