Changing Power Steering Fluid

What I've found on line is, jack up the front wheels, suck the fluid out of the reservoir, then put fresh fluid in, start the engine turn the steering wheel back and forth, and repeat until the fluid is clear. This takes a long time.
Is there any reason why I can't pull one of the fittings loose from the rack , take the top of the reservoir and let it drain(engine off)
While we're at it doesn't power steering fluid work just as well as Dextron II?

You probably could do that but you will introduce a lot of air into the system, watch Timmy the toolmans video on YouTube he has 2 for flushing the power steering system. I kind of did a mixture of both of his videos, removed the fluid with a turkey baster and small syringe 5-10 times and then removed the reservoir and cleaned the screen.

Do not use power steering fluid. Different additives than transmission fluid.

X2 power steering fluid in our system will eat the seals and you will have a leaky rack very quickly, (ask me how I know). It says on the fill cap of the Power steering to use ATF and you will be very happy.

Suck old fluid from res.
Disconnect res return line.
Route res ret line into waste can.
No need to start engine.
With wheels off ground, work steering wheel back and forth. The old D-ATF gushes out into waste can.
Refill the res with new D-ATF periodically while doing this.
When you have exchanged a sufficient amount of D-ATF, re-attach return line to reservoir and top off res.
Start/run engine. Stop engine. Check level of D-ATF on dipstick and adjust. If it foams up(usually accompanied by a odd whine sound), let it settle for a while and add D-ATF to replace the settled-out air.
Detaching the reservoir in order to clean the screen at the bottom is optional, but will need to be done at some point.
Use only Dexron ATF.

Can I buy a reservoir for a 2.7 without a pump anywhere?

Had hard steering issues in the cold, did the reservoir pull and blasted the filter screen out with brake clean, couldn't get the factory crimps on the PS top tight enough. I got Ps fluid dripping down on belts and splattered into the bay. Belts a squeekin'

Part number for the reservoir is 44306-04020. What do you mean the factory crimps? Did you remove the top of the reservoir that the cap threads on to?
