Is my limited a freak of nature?

Well not really a freak of nature but....
After some research, all of the 98 limiteds I am seeing have the chrome bumpers but my 98 has color-matched bumpers. When I bought this 4Runner I carfaxed it and I guess this one was stolen in 98 and then recovered (still has a clear title). I was unsure at first but after driving it I decided it was nice enough and the price was right... so anyways, does my limited have the wrong bumpers?

when I read the title of your thread I thought you meant your truck was putting down like 200rwhp.:beer:
 
ive never seen any earlier 96-98 4runners with color keyed bumpers up front, i think when it was stolen they either wrecked the front end or the P.O. just painted it

Well, when it was stolen it was found in Canada and re-assembled there. Not sure if there is any truth to it, but I heard that Canadian 4Runners have painted bumpers. My brother does body work and I detailed cars for two years and am pretty good at picking out when something has been sprayed and these just look stock. Maybe my 4Runner is part Japanese and part Canadian. Sounds like a weird combo.
 
Its possible the thieves wrecked it and when it was recovered the insurance company paid to replace the front bumper. Looking at your pic it looks like the skid plate is bent too. But that still doesn't explain if it had a chrome face bar (bumper) on it originally why they would replace it with a painted one. And they don't come painted, a body shop would have had to have painted it if it was replaced. They are only sold as either chrome or primered. It could have been something the previous owner paid for or they might have gotten a used one and put it on there. Also what does the back bumper look like? Is it chrome or painted? They should match, if not someone definately swapped them...
 
Oops, never mind. I just looked up your car in a body shop estimating database and it looks like there are 3 bumpers avail from Toyota...a chrome, a 40th Anniversay package, and a painted Gray Pearl Metallic which is what yours looks like. Yours is a freak of nature but only because of its overall paint color, that's why no other 98 limiteds have painted bumpers except other Gray Pearl Metallic ones!

My truck is desert dune metallic. Im interested to know more about this 40th anniversary package though.
 
Toyota lists one as an option, I have never actually heard of one tho, maybe google it?
