I don't think so. The opening is too narrow. You may be able to make it work with some trimming, but I have yet to see someone install one in a 3rd Gen. I'm trying to figure out how to relocate the controls for the A/C down to the lower Din Panel. There would likely be enough room to fit the 10 inch screen up there with a little fiberglass work.

It’s a lot of work making a newer double din and a half fit out older runners but it’s worth it.
A 10 inch. That’s even more modding.

Whether it's a terrible idea. install 10-in head unit in 01 sport
I'm trying to put in an Atoto 10.1 inch floating head unit directly underneath the vents. The knob climate control panel would be moved all the way to the bottom. There is enough wire for the move. Before I start cutting and trying to make things fit and mount I would like help if anybody has any tips. Of course, the existing mounts for the head unit and the climate control will no longer apply and I need to figure out new ones.
The following was written for a Facebook page where I was able to attach pictures but I'm going to leave it as written. Maybe it will make sense for you. Some of my three pics were 12 MB and I think I can only max size about 136kb. If I can figure out how to downsize, I will attach.
HELP before I butcher my Dash!
Pic 1. The plastic marked bar would have to be cut out to allow the head unit to fit in. The climate control rested on that and mounted on the sides.
Pic 2. The dash bezel would also have to be cut as marked for the head unit to come out. There would be a certain amount of space around the head unit but that should be hidden by the 10-in screen. I would only cut this if I felt everything was mounted correctly and securely.
Pic 3. Shows both pieces needing to be cut.
That's just one part of it. The rest is getting the stereo to securely mount along with the climate control on the very bottom. With the change of positions, nothing is going to line up properly and this may take some creativity along with nuts and bolts. I prefer to avoid glue.
If I can accomplish this, I'll have a nice screen directly underneath the vents so I don't have to look down so far to see. With some trimming on the climate control faceplate I think I can also get that to sit on the outside of the dash bezel. If I mount it inside, I believe some of the writing for the knob settings will be hidden.
Sorry for the long post, but I would like to do this and hopefully somebody can offer some of their skill sets. If is bad idea, I would like to know now before I start cutting things up that I can't replace.
Thanks for your help!

10.1 Kenwood was perfect for me with only a little compromise with the vents and seeing the AC controls. Love it!

Which year and model is that? Is that a single din? Did you move the controls lower? Moving things around is what I'm trying to do. Thanks for your post

Did you ever get the 10-in to work? I'm trying to install one right now. It might be doable, but there's a lot of adjustments and right now I'm wondering if it's worth the 3 inch gain.
