98 looking for certain wires in the kick panel rear harness.

So I'm trying to hookup the reverse cam when in reverse and dimmer when lights are on functions on my new Atoto headset and figured I would try and tap the reverse light and the taillight at the harness that is just behind the driver kick panel. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this or know which wires I need to tap?

I would assume the quickest way to tell would be to take off the taillight on that side and see what color wires go to the reverse bulb. I assume the wire color should be the same up front, whatever color the reverse bulb wire is should be the one to tap into.

I'm glad I didn't go with this assumption as it's almost impossible to trace these wires (short of using a meter I'm sure). The first harness off of the taillights the wires change colors and then there is another harness at the back seats that is further confusing as the wires on one side and the other aren't even in the same pins in the harness. I decided I'm going to just run the taps all the way to the back where they come right off the taillight assembly.

Yeah I think running the wires to the back was the right plan of action. Dimmer and backup cam functions now work flawlessly. So happy to finally have a backup camera and not have my head unit searing my eyeballs at night.

Hmm.. I would look at a Harness, but @RandyBobandy still has it in his trunk for the elocker wiring section that he never did yet....

All we need to know is which wires they transfer to. Maybe @RandyBobandy can look for us.. hint... hint... hint....lol

Like I said I got really confused when I ran into that harness where it wasn't just transferring a wire from one side to the other, no clue what it was doing (and it certainly didn't look like it was actually one of the computers).

Yes. I am sure it is, and we know it's going through there heading back. I would just be good to know which wire it is in the driver side kick panel. Unless it's on the passenger side as well as heading back. Then, it would be nice to know both.

I am guessing he left us for dead. He is quite busy this time of the year...

In a '98, Back up light is Red with Yellow stripe in both kick panels. Taillight is solid green also in both. You can get the plug and pin info off the EWDs.

I think you might be right about the reverse light but I'm not so sure on the taillight. Just on the harness right off the light, I saw the solid green go to a solid green with 1 silver dot and then I lost it at that other harness at the back seat. Regardless I'm glad I played it safe and just ran some extra wire to ensure that I had the right ones tapped and everything now works great. Finally go the last piece to finish up the install and got her all put back together about 30 minutes ago, glad I not have trim panels flying all over my truck now lol.

I'm pretty sure you will find that green wire where I said it was. I suspect you were following a tap circuit for something aftermarket and not the actual wire supplying power to the lights. It could even be factory but going to something not part of the taillight circuit and thus not on my EWD. Taillight circuit goes to a lot of different places.

Maybe to the trailer connection if you have one? I don't see that covered in the factory EWD like it is on my '99.
