4runner comedy - the price they want is a joke

2002 4Runner Sport, has low miles at 39k.. but they have it listed at $24,995!!!
$10,000 above the blue book value!

Their other ads typically don't even list a price. This one has had a few listings on Craigslist and Autotrader before with no price. I've looked at 4th Gens and Tacomas from this same company before and contacted them about prices.. and they were ridiculously high also.

Assuming this is in absolutely perfect showroom condition, what would this be worth? Is it worth even $1000 or $1500 over blue book or is blue book the top end and for a vehicle that looks like its never driven?

I wonder if they will take a post dated two party out of state check?

dang it even comes with fuel injection, center consol, and folddown rear seats.

Mabye they put a 2 instaed of a 1...... Or they are on crack. I'm going with the second option.

maybe theres bags of crack and drugs hidden inside the air vents, and the $24k price will be a signal that only special customers can read

I noticed it is a Washington state phone number...But it is the Toyota dealer down on Mcloughlin Blvd here in Portland.

I checked their website and they don't even have a price on it...It only says to call.

I do like craigslist, sure you might get murdered, or someone is trying to rip you off, but before craigslist the regular guy had a hard time selliing their car or drum or whatever. Sometimes the owner feels the car is worth more than it is. So, if is free to run the ad. If he gets no hits, he can just lower it.

I've been trying to negotiate on this vehicle for a week. I got them down to $20,000 after much gnashing of teeth and talking to every sales manager there... sorry guys.. I told them I'm not paying more than $16k on it.. and even that is $2k over book. This vehicle though is NICE. The leather on the steering wheel looks like it has never been touched. I think there are even lint balls on the rear seats as they've probably never been used. But $20k? NO way..

I totalled my 2002 Sport, same color and everything, back in January. I KNOW how much a 2002 Sport is worth.. I spent hours and hours compiling information, talking to appraisers, and funneling info through my lawyer to the insurance companies appraiser.. only to get screwed in the end!

I miss my old 4Runner... it's like a death in the family to have your baby totalled

I've looked at other 4Runners on Craiglists from them. They NEVER post prices. They probably only put the price on Craigslist now because I called bullshit on them and they kept wanting to tell me "it was $24k!" but couldn't show me anywhere they had advertised it at that.

I'd used their "contact us for a quote" on some 4th gen 4Runners in the past and it was the same thing.. WAY over blue book. Seems to be standard operating procedure for them.. which sucks.. I'm kind of wanting a Limited, but I'd still LOVE to have a nice low mileage Sport like the 2002 Sport I lost in an accident.

Well it is a nice looking truck, but even at 16K you would be paying too much. I paid about 20k over 3 years ago for pretty much the same truck, but w/ 54k and certified used through Toyota. Sounds like this dealer is overpriced and unwilling to work with you, so just keep looking elsewhere.

i'll say right now i would drop $20k on that before even thinking about spending the same amount on a 4th Gen, or more than likely a 5th gen.

Bottom line is if you have a unique vehicle that stands out from the crowd for some reason, the resale value of a clean low millage like new condition example will demand what some consider insane prices.

Take the MKIV Supra, MKII MR2 and the AE86 Corollas, they all demand higher than what you would think a XXXX year Toyota should be worth.

Biggest problem the dealer has is finding a bank to give a loan for that much over a "book price" they are going to have to find a 3rd gen lover that has cash in hand ready to go.

405motors out of Seattle just sold 2 low mileage 2000s with rear lockers for less than that. I would have bought one of them.. it was 95% as clean as this perfect 2002 Sport.. but it already had a deposit on it. The sales guy let me look through it and everything but said he couldn't sell it unless the other deal fell through.

They were both Limiteds. One was listed at $14k (the one I didn't see) and the other was listed at $16k. One of them actually had 36k, slightly lower than this $20k Sport with 39k.
I think for your "enthusiasts" like us most people would prefer a 2000 with rear locker over a 2002 with just a center lock if the same number of miles.

I actually ended up going literally, a few yards actually, across the street to a Honda dealer to look at Honda Pilots.. (I know.. I almost became a traitor to the cause) and they had a 2004 4Runner. I'm now the owner of a high-mileage 4th gen, that sold at $2.5k under book, because Toyota of Gladstone just wouldn't negotiate on their 3rd gen... which must have several pounds of platinum in it's catalytic converters. I spent the same amount on it that I had offered them for their 3rd gen.. and ended up just as much under blue book as I would have been over book on the 3rd gen.

The 4th gen won't be quite as much fun off-road.. but as a daily driver the upgrade to a Limited with all the bells and whistles satisfied my partner. She's happy that it has everything built in.. rather than having my Scanguage 2 wired in to calculate gas mileage, a autodimming mirror wired in, a glass-mounted antenna (woohoo! no more crap antenna to deal with in the 4th gen), and an outside temperature sensor wired and mounted to the dash.
The auto-up and down on the rear window is nice.. but I can't figure out why they removed the passenger auto window so only the driver side is auto now.
