Mine does it. My guess is that the computer won't let the throttle motor move the throttle plate until the transmission signals "gear change complete". Next, being Mr. Impatient, I step on the gas thinking it should be done transitioning R to D. Now the gas pedal and the throttle plate disagree and I have let off and re-step on the gas or deal with a delay that seems like an eternity accompanied by a goofy, jerky start.

Basically Toyota doesn't want us doing big Neurtral drops

That's my guess and I emphasize the word guess.
