What do I need to do to T4R before snow trip??

We are taking our 08 Urban Runner up to Tahoe in a few weeks and I would like it to be a good experience, no break downs. I plan on changing the coolant (red) to a 50/50 mixture, but that is about as far as my knowledge goes for snow trips. I did a quick search but I didn't really see anything other then making sure I have -0 windshield wiper fluid ( I dont even know if I can find that in the bay area lol). Any recommendations from the pros or links to threads discussing what needs to be done prior to a snow trip. We live in the bay area so cold weather is not a very common thing. Also, this is a 2wd automatic with the traction control, will I need chains? My 96 4x4 isn't quiet ready to make the trip yet as I am not sure of its reliability (owned 3 month) Thanks in advance.

If there in chain control, you'll need chain. As far as windshield wiper fluid, if you can't get de-icing fluid, you can put a bottle of rubbing alcohol in the bottle of regular wiper fluid. Does the same.

Don't worry you'll be fine, go and enjoy yourself.
 
Get an ice scraper for your windshield. As you start getting into colder climates you can buy washer fluid at any gas station. Keep some iodized salt in the truck (to spread on ice infront of the tires just incase you need a little traction). Chain laws may be in effect over some of the high mtn passes, but are normally only effect truckers. Keep a 10k lb tow strap and a D ring or hooks in the truck. Gloves, blankets, coats, candle and matches. A hand held CB never hurts. Flashlight... Etc..
Most of that stuff you most likely won't use but if you end up needing it its good to have.
Before entering any steep mtn pass there are blue signs indicating what AM radio station you can tune to for weather information on the pass.
More or less just bring stuff you need for a trip, but think cold.
