New SR5 - Where to put the garage door opener?

I picked up a new Shadow Mica SR5 over the Thanksgiving weekend. So far everything is great. But - the sun visors are nearly 1" thick, the clip on my garage door opener doesn't even come close to fitting on that thing. I do not have the homelink option. None of the storage slots seem to be quite the perfect place for it. Suggestions?

I bought the mini keychain opener button from Home Depot (or was it Lowes?) and fixed it to the 4Runner with a round Velcro button. Out of the way, and out of sight too.

You can add homelink very easily. Check out the price at Partznet, it's a very worthwhile mod. Not familiar with the install, as mine came with it, but I know many have done it. Do a search on "homelink", probably come up with a step by step procedure.

When I first got my SR5, I bought one of those keychain garage door openers and put it in the storage box to the left of the shifter. It fit perfectly and didn't move around. I would just push open the lid and push the button. I think it was a Crafstman opener.

A few months later I added the homelink overhead console. It was around $80 and was easy to install. I'd highly recommend getting it. It's a lot more integrated and I think it lists for $100 as a factory-installed option.

It looks like the homelink add on option is the way to go so I will pursue that.

Another question - by adding the homelink option, does that take away the sunglasses compartment?

I had the same problem, i just re-shaped the metal hook on my opener so it fit on the visor. Saves the $80 for the homelink.

If yo don't want to bother with Homelink,

I just drop the garage door opener in the flip out tray right under the HVAC controls.

Nope, you don't lose a thing. I highly recommend going with the homelink mod, especially if you have two or more garage doors!

I removed the clip to the garage door opener and it now sits in the thing in front of the center arm rest. Anyone know what its called?

garage door

i put mine above my head attached to the roof dunnage (liner)
near the moon roof. no visibillity concerns
the only reason why, I have a cd holder attached to my visor and the damn thing doesn't work close to a cd. weird huh

I believe the technical name for that feature is The Burger Tray.

It is out of the way, and I can still access it, even with the lid closed.

Ours is on a CD visor on the passenger side and we don't have any problems with it working close to CD's.

I clipped mine under the overhead light housing until I got a new garage door opener and then clipped it onto the pop out tray under the a/c controls.
