Long Travel
Who makes the best Long Wheel Travel system for the fourth gen 4x4's? Im looking for as much wheel travel as possible and still have the 4x4 working as normal. My current setup works fine, but I want more.

On the boards, Total Chaos seems most popular but I think you're going to find differing opinions of what is the "best."
All Pro & Camburg also make LT kits for the 120 platform. There aren't a lot of members here running LT, it may be a good idea to include FJCruiserForum and TacomaWorld in your search for reviews since the platform is the same.

the Total Chaos 2" has 11.5" of travel with a 4" track width addition, 3" has 13." of travel w/4wd and a 7" track width addition.
Basically a pick your poison situation. Both lift 3-4"

If you want some serious travel, wait for DTF's new kit for the tacoma and therefore our 4runners. 4x4, fully fabbed spindle, 18"ish of wheel travel, and +6" each side for 12" additional track width. That will be the most travel using bolt on parts, but isn't out yet and is most likely the most expensive.
If not, go with Camburg or Total Chaos +3.5" kit

Wouldn't you start running into issues with the CV angles? I figured those would the limiting factor.

GM, ford and Dodge all have aftermarket lift spindles for stock set ups. i ran them on my last truck. They have a spacer that pushes out the CV to meet spindle hub. The hub and whatnot stays the same, its an extended top that makes the lift.
EDIT: maybe the way toyota has their LCA BJ location causes the issue.

I've also been looking into long travel. I think in the future i'll be going with either the Total chaos or Camburg 2" LT set up. I think that will be more than enough for what i need and i also don't want to go too wide cause of the trails we run back east can get a little tight with all the trees etc. The thing you have to think about now is either running Glass works fenders or modifying/cutting the stock ones because your going to have a lot more up travel and depending on your tire size you will be hitting them if you keep the stock fenders. The issue i have now is i will have to have someone modify my bumper to match the Glass works fenders as they with be a couple inches wider on each side the same way that
@ The
josh did with his.
What do you guess think about the rear though? I'd like to try to match up the stance a little bit to the front. I was thinking of running a set of sidertrax in the rear as a cheaper option at least to help widen it up..

The geometry and axle shaft are the issue for 4wd lift spindles.
I would buy Total Chaos again. I have their Gen 3 Race kit on my pick up. Top notch quality parts and service. They have done all the R&D on that chassis, you just buy the parts (from me ) and it will perform like a different truck!

i dont think you will match the width of LT for the rear. Nor would i want to have that big of a spacer.

Currie makes a custom F9 housing for the FJ cruiser which is the same as 4runner rear axle. Custom width for Long travel

Yeah of course it won't match it up perfectly but at least it will push it out 2.5" with spidertrax 1.25 on each side and the difference wouldn't be as drastic but yes would be nice to not have to run any spacers at all. I just thiunk the difference would would bother me a little..
