Tails of a FNG dolt

I purchased my 4runner about a year ago as a trade in for out FORD Escape that my wife and I HATED. Orginally I went to the dealership to look at Tundras as my pickup was aged and I wanted a new toy. Since the dealership had very few and none to my specs I was about to leave the dealership when my wife was all like, "Ooooo, I like that". So once again the wife got her new car (feel bad calling 4runner that) and I get to be stuck in my vehicle. So she got her 4runner and I limped on with my F150. Well a month goes by and I, still finding no joy at the dealership tundra wise, decided to save a little gas money by getting a car. So the F150 was traded for a Maxima. Long story short, the Max got me in trouble (94 in a 40) so I appropriated the 4runner from the wife as the foot does not tend to get as heavy. JJEEEEZZZUUUUUUSSSS I should have done that sooner. One, I would not have even looked at anything other than Toyota. Two, I would have done more research into what bells and whistles I got. Three, I AM HOOKED!!!

It happened one night when a friend came over one night. We were annyoying the wife so I grabbed some chairs and got the hell out of dodge. First some beer, then out of the way spot in the sticks where we can be as loud as needed without attracting undue attention. It began with donuts ("Dude what's that beeping?"), then sometrain driving, then some train hauling ass. That night it was decided, "This thing is a beast!". Needless to say the wife was a little P.O.ed when she saw it in the morning in it's dirty glory.
:biggrin2:

A couple of weeks later, my friend came back over and we got a little ruthless with it again. This time I let my friend drive. He literally could not wipe the sh%t eating grin off his face. "Dude, I knew this thing kicks ass, but this thing KICKS ASS!!!" He would not stop going on about it until he fell asleep.

Finally a couple of months ago, I wanted to see what 4lo was like and I wanted to show my son. I mean what is the point in having a 4 wheel drive if it never gets used? So I took my son and the 4runner to play when my wife was out shopping. I was worried about getting stuck when I got to the spot. After a while I found at that place my major concern was more along the lines of how deep are the ruts. We had a blast! When it was all said and done we had mud from top to bottom. Hell, my son would not let me clean it for a month. Unfortunately, I could not find the camera until after it was cleaned. Oh well, Not like I can't do it again. And once again, the wife was pissed.

What did I learn?
Myself and my son like mud... wife doesn't.
I need some lift... and a skid plate.
I'm hooked, my son is hooked. He is working on me to trade Max for FJ.
V8 4WD is good but I should have got XREAS.
And Damn it I don't see a Large White T4R.ORG sticker below and it is and I need one.

So, the title said something about an FNG dolt. FNG is obvious, dolt I hope is not too obvious, but in case there are questions, we bought the 4runner based on color. Luckily it happened to be V8 4WD. SO, what is the point? Hell, I don't know, maybe I just want to brag. Maybe I want suggestions on toys. Maybe I'm just proving what a dolt I truly am. Either way, I am happy to be here.

Yeah, this truck snuck up on me too! BTW, don't be too concerned about having XREAS. Since you are planning a lift many of the different kinds of lifts would require the scrapping of the XREAS anyways.

So, tell honeybear that the money you saved on not getting the XREAS can be spent on a more sophisticated off road suspension.

OR, don't tell her anything and just do it...;)

You are not alone........

I bought mine for all sorts of practical reasons and it was not until after my off-road trip in Utah that I was suddenly hooked. Now I want to drive it every day but I hate to rack up the miles on it.

Welcome to great forum. Wait until you see all of the cool modifications and accessories to be bought. Kiss your wife goodbye and kiss your 4Runner instead....!

Welcome to the 4Runner Family and this site. Almost everyone here feels the same way about our 4Runners. I can tell you the feeling does not go away. It reminds me of my Pit Bull, once you own one nothing else seems worth having.

I know exactly how you feel. I bought one a couple months ago and haven't looked back.

It is a great truck all around.

Thanks all for the welcome.

Bill, I think honeybear's appropriate responce would be, "Huh, Ookkkkaaaaayyy." I think I'll stick to plan B and follow the Just Do It philosophy. I've snuck a couple of things so far. A couple of things she saw liked and used. Funny; though, her biggest complaint is when a sticker magically appears.
Thanks for putting the mind at ease on the XREAS.

Waki, I think I'll pass on the kissing, but I'll be happy to show my true love by putting money into it.

Koz, I'm glad the feeling does not go away because this is the first vehicle I've owned that I have given a shit about much less actually liked.

I need to go in for my 10k oil change and tire rotation. It should be interesting to see if any comments are made about the undercarriage grindage ond or leftover mud. I didn't exactly do a great clean up job last time and there is plenty of mud caked underneath. This may be bad timing for this maintenance because my son is sure to want to tag along to further my pressure on the FJ.

Welcome to the forum. The 4wd bug seems to bite hard. For me it started with a 2000 Jeep Cheeroke. I wanted to buy a 1992 4 runner but my uncle persuaded me to by the Jeep becuase it was newer and a really good deal(nearly 4k under book)and in great condition. Learned to wheel in that and then sold it for a 2000 SR5 and I couldnt be Happier!! Found the Runner for a great deal and sold the Heep(82000 miles was starting to scare me, especially since I beat it up so bad). Anyhow-- congrats on the 4runner!!
