the timing belt vs chain debate is over used IMHO. Do we have a significant amount of timing belt failures on this board? I'm at 315k miles and the PO changed the timing belt at 100k. So, I'm 200k over due on the timing belt....I'll get around to it one of these days

You do know that the 4.7L V8 is an interference motor right?

the reason you don't see a lot of failed timing belts is because everyone on this board is weird and we all change them every 90-100k.

The timing belt from my old Camry (non-interference) was hung on the shop wall after lasting 325K which was a new record for the shop.

there's no debate it's just preventative maintenance.. they both aren't fun to do but its a big thing to look out for.. it's obviously great yours has lasted that long, but you should take care of it before something bad happens and ends up costing you a whole lot more in the long run...

About a year and a half ago, I changed the timing belt (and water pump) at 102k and it looked damn near brand new. I am at 118k now and will not change it again regardless of how many miles I put on my 4Runner.
