Whatever he's smoking, I want some! How many environmental laws does California have in place already? I don't think you can buy a new vehicle these days that does not already meet California emmisions standards. Whether you live in Cali or not. Yes, I'm sure the Big 6 can do a better job but I don't think they've been slacking when it comes to emmisions standards either.

It's amazing how this comes back to cars all the time. They refuse to go after factories and their smoke stacks and exhaust systems because they feel that it will cost the plants too much to impliment the changes and that will in turn be paid for by the consumer. So lets just let them polute the air and fabricate studies that "prove" cars are the devil and they are ruining the world. As a car guy (new, old and everything in between) this seriously pisses me off. I cant stand it! :rant: :soapbox: :cursin: :twak:
isn't it the state that put the low tolerance emission tests in place and enforcing them? the state is in charge allowing for new cars (or making it thougher) to go on the street. how come now they say that the cars are polluting the environment and it's the automakers' fault? it just doesn't add up.

Well, what else should we expect? Isn't this one of the maroons who was in favor of allowing cities to sue gun manufacturers for the acts of criminals who deliberately misused a legal product?

Me thinks it is close to budget time and the dolts in Sacramento still can't find enough cash to make ends meet -- and they're looking to bleed dry yet another industry. Maybe they would not be in such dire circumstances if the state taxpayers were not trying to support half the population of Mexico.

I'm a Geography Major at Texas State University, which is also the #1 school for geography in the country.
According to my professors, global warming is a crock of shit. According to scientific data, we've been warming for thousands of years.
Granted, that warming dates back to the last ice age, which from what I've been told, we are unknowingly within a 1000 years of the next ice age, which means sometime in the years to come our temperature will peak and then lower until the next ice age starts.
We also know that most of the US was covered by water at one point or another. From the guestimations, the ice age will come about similar to the events in the movie "Day After Tomorrow" The polar caps will slowly melt away enough water that the water level will rise significantly covering most of the United States.
Who knows how much will be covered or how long, but it will cause weather patterns to drastically change and eventually cause massive cold fronts and ice storms beginning the next ice age. All we know is that the last ice age covered as far south as Ohio
This can all be contested up and down left and right, but nobody really knows what will happen. There are actually many theories on the issue, none however are covered by the political "geniuses" that seek power.

Global Warming
I believe it is nothing short of a "money grab" and a way to punish the prosperity of the United States.
First of all, it has never been proven absolutely that "global warming" is indeed occurring. Since the earth's climatic changes occur over centuries and millennia, figures & statistics that show it warmer now than fifty or even a hundred years ago don't mean very much. It is truly possible that we're in a short warming trend inside of another ice age. Nobody knows for sure.
Second, even if global warming is proven beyond a doubt, there is still the huge chasm between cause and effect. If it is happening, what proof is there that man's activities are the cause? Just because my dog barks in the morning before dawn, it does not mean that he causes the sun to rise!
Finally, assuming it is proven that people living in houses and driving 4Runners are the cause......just what are we supposed to do to actually stop global warming? If we got rid of all the cars in the USA in the blink of an eye, it would pale in comparison to what is going on in the so-called 'developing' nations. Fast-growing populations and rapid industrialization in other countries will pose more of an environmental challenge than anything we've ever faced before.
My gut tells me that a lot of these climatic changes are natural phenomena - possibly having to do with solar activity, geothermal energy, undersea fissures, volcanic activity and even ocean currents.
Just keep your fingers crossed and the Vaseline warm!
