Thinking of buying a salvaged (hail) 2006 sr5

I just found a 2006 sr5 about an hour away from me with 120k miles for $10,700. Catch is that is a hail salvage. I'm thinking of checking it out and as long as its mechanically sound and frame is all good I'm considering offering 8 grand and try to settle for $8,500 or $9,000 cash. I'm fine spending a few hours here and there popping out little hail dents myself if I can get a good car for a good price. Am I losing my mind from looking for my first 4runner for about a month now? Originally was hoping to hind a 99 or 00 limited with rear locking diff but saw this car and it seemed like it could potentially be a steal as long as I don't mind the cosmetic issues until I hopefully can pop the dents (well most of them)

I'd say 6K tops. My 2008 got hailed on a few years ago, cost 5K to repair.
Is this a blue 4runner on Floyd Hill?
 
They are asking too much for a salvaged title 4runner. I paid 12 for mine and it was close to perfect.

So after looking into it further I am completely confused with the title. Being in colorado hail damage can not be used to salvage a vehicle. It was declared a total loss due to hail from what I can tell from the carfax and then a duplicate/salvage title in Colorado Springs. So maybe it is a clean title after all and carfax is confused? Also he has it listed as a sport while its a sr5 so I think I can knock quite a bit off the price. It also has a two open recalls so maybe I could save him some time and bring it in myself and ask to have some more money knocked off the price. Related but a quick tangent, do open recalls expire? As for repairing the hail I would just pull as many of the dents as best I could to save that money. Without the hail I have no doubts it could be sold for like 13-14 grands with the milage and the interior condition, the market is competitive being in a mountainous and snowy state. If the title is in fact clean do you think that 8-9k is too much?

Edit: I do want to clarify that this is for sale at a dealership

If it were a private seller I would agree total greed but as far as I can tell the insurance company took hold of the vehicle from the last owner and then auctioned it off to the dealership it is at. I guess I should amend my original post to include that. From what I can tell he bought it at auction for 7200 I believe but I don't think it's really worth more than 8-9k as long as the title is in fact clean and not salvage which I don't think it can be based solely on hail according to my states codes (Colorado)

When did you purchase your 4runner and what milage if you don't mind me asking. I have been trying to learn the market so that I can spot deals and duds more effectively. The market is really tough out here in Colorado with the mountains and all the snowy weather driving people to purchase these awesome vehicles.

If the title is clean it would be a good deal, especially if its not THAT bad.
 
I paid less then 7k for my 08 with 160k. SR5 V6 4wd. Perfect body, interior looked brand new, needed maintenance (plugs, fluids, ect). I wouldn't pay anything NEAR what they are asking for a salvage title truck.

Kind of what I was thinking, the interior looks immaculate and 120k for that price is hard to find near me. I think if I can get 8k or maybe 9k out the door it wouldn't be too bad a deal
 
Thanks for all the help everyone, based on all this I think I will most likely be passing on this vehicle unless I can get out the door for 7,500 which I almost guarantee won't happen because I think this dealership bid 7,200 for it themselves. Glad to know there is such a helpful community of 4runner owners on here!
 
My biggest problem with a salvage title rig is my insurance company won't insure it... I would look into this first with your existing company.

On top of that... the seller is asking too much.

I purchased mine around January time with 133k miles from a used car lot. Used my 6 month old 2015 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 with 12k miles as a trade in.
