True North Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier

I know how slim the pickings are for rear setups so I thought this might be of interest. All photos are obviously not mine and belong to their respective owners. They made some kits and welded available on a pre order basis and I snagged a weld together. When I get it I'll have some photos of my own.

Pretty slick looking if you ask me. I like how it doesn't have a lot of plate to it. It might not make my truck match with the front bumper but true north does have a front bumper available too. Also a great design but I pulled the trigger on mine before it came out sadly.

I know the truck belongs to a member but I can't remember their handle.

Posting something like that without a link is just mean ;) Good looking idea. Would want to know if you cut the bumper up at all, and what the attachment points are.... Also whether it changes the towing capacity of the rear hitch.

Here’s the link:
03-09 4RUNNER REAR BUMPER - WELDED | TNF
I wonder if this can be ordered without the hitch (I bet it can since it looks like a standard bolt-on style hitch) or if it’ll even fit with a V8 hitch.
$1600 is a steal and this looks really good!

Yeah, that really isn't bad for a rear with swingout. His target price is competitive with Coastal for the kit, which is impressive. I do wish that he offered a shorter swing out for the rear tire though. Wish I could keep my OEM rear camera with one of these, but that ain't happening.

Big question though is v8 tow hitch compatibility.

And how easy it would be to add things to that molle panel.

Clean and lightweight design definitely has an appeal factor of 10 for me. Wish I could squeeze the coin from somewhere. Would a Go Fund My -True North rear bumper/4:56 gears/ARB Locker/King bump stops -account be immoral?

So apparently it won’t work with a V8 hitch or a body lift. Too bad.

Well we shall see what the setup looks like and what can be done to retain the v8 towing capacity. I'm still building it in my v8. I dont think beefing it up would be much of an issue with the tire out of the way.

Anybody have experience with these on a 4th gen v8? their website mentions no compatibility with body lifts but there is nothing on not being compatible with a v8 despite what was mentioned earlier in this thread. Really like the price point on these so I'm kinda favoring this over the Coastal Offroad kit. Looks significantly lighter as well.

help me decide what to do with my smashed rear bumper!

I really like the look (and the weight savings over a plate bumper) of these! Thanks for posting!

This is probably a bit late but I have one on a 4th gen v8. It isn't designed for a body lift but given the way that you cut the bumper I think a body lift wouldn't have an effect.

Right on. I ended up going with the coastal off-road bumper with the dual swing outs and I’m digging it. Pretty long fabrication process but it paid off

How I beefed up my TNF clone bumper. Mine is also made of DOM not HREW like the TNF bumper. Might be how they keep the cost down a lot. Mine also uses 28 bolts to hold it to the frame lol

Very cool! Did you make that rear bumper yourself? Or is it available for purchase somewhere? How does it affect towing capacity?
