Temperature control panel caused airbag light to stay on

The temperature A/C control panel went out on my 2005 4Runner Limited. I bought a used one on eBay, the airbag light came on and stayed on, my mechanic found an error code it reads "Off indicator open, driving circuit". He told me to swap the old panel back - no airbag light. I missed the return window, so I had to buy another one. Plugged in the "new" used panel, airbag light is back on. Apparently it cannot be reset on the scanner. How do I fix it?

I believe to have the airbag light reset you have to go to a dealership, unfortunately. Someone please correct me if there’s another way.
 
One of those gray flat cables that connect from the center switch to the LCD was flaky, tried to fix it, but just made it worse. Now I cannot adjust temperature, turn on AC, nothing.

Not good. Sorry, don't have much for you. My only suggestion would be to get AC controls from another 2005 limited. I say this because I have seen instrument cluster swaps from different years cause random issues so I am guessing there is some year to year change causing a/b light issue.
 
Thank you for this info. It was not what I wanted to hear, but after buying two from eBay, and both had that issue, I was worried that might be the case. I'm wondering if the dealer can reset it. I wanted to avoid the $1100+ bill.

I'm not sure if the exact year matters but probably best, the one thing that does matter is making sure you get one for a "Limited" model, the Limited model has a different system than the other models, in the fact that it's a "Dual Zone" system where the driver's side and passenger's side can be set for different temperatures, all other models have a single zone system!
 
Yes, thank you. I did, I made sure they were for a Limited and both had dual zone controls.
I know that a lot of things have to be programmed to the computer, it does not make sense that a temperature controller would need the same treatment.
