What kind of damage by going over 50mph in 4wd?

My wife took our 4Runner out today after it snowed last night. There was still snow on the side roads so she had it in 4hi for the whole ride, including driving about 5 miles on the highway at approximately 65mph. She didn't know not to drive over 50mph while in 4wd. What kind of damage can be done by going over 50mph for a short drive? I'm thinking it is fine but I'm just paranoid.

I don't think there would be a problem doing that speed in 4Hi, if she were in 4Lo though, then there would most likely be a problem.

No damage- you will place more strain on the drivetrain making parking lot maneuvers in 4wd than going relatively straight at 65.

I was glad to finally get a little snow around here! Got some nice drive time this morning, before it turned to rain!

Manual advises to switch to 4WD Hi on speeds < 50mph. There is no limit on driving speed as far as I know. And there is now way you can go 50mph in 4WD Lo.

Speed is not an issue in 4wd....you can do 90 if you want (safety and road conditions not being a factor). They just don't want you to engage the system into 4wd over 50, once engaged you are fine.

Thanks for the quick replies! I misunderstood the whole 50mph thing. I thought you couldn't drive over 50 with 4hi engaged. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
