What pressure can I get away with on 35’s load rating E??

So i’m seeing some very conflicting info all over the internet about this. I have about an hour drive each way, for the most part under 50mph to get to the off-road areas I go to. The other day, my air pump broke, so i had to drive home on 12psi. staying under 40mph and pulling over occasionally to check that the tires were staying cold, and they were!

They hardly even have any sidewall deflection at that pressure. While i still think 12 is definitely too low for regular pavement driving, i think something like 22 is doable? There’s zero sidewall deflection at that pressure. Maybe ~2-3mm if that. But the ride quality difference between 22 and 30 is big. Is it safe to run 22? (maybe 20? 18? what do y’all run?) I’m not going on long highway drives with this thing. Just quick jaunts around town basically.

Have definitely driven on 15-18psi for much longer/faster than recommended with no issues.

I have had trouble finding load/inflation charts that go below 35psi - but even then, you can extrapolate a bit.

Do the 'chalk test' to see what the tread is doing at various pressures to help with your decision.

I do some highway miles here and there at 20-22psi, and I can feel the extra rolling resistance - though that is on load range C tires (K02). I run 35psi normally. But that isn't apples-to-apples with LRE tires...

As far as I know, the MINIMUM pressure for LT Tires is 35 PSI. That's why the charts don't list anything under that. I have Load Range D tires and if I run them below the minimum 35 PSI, the tire becomes an undampened spring due to the sidewalls flexing because of under-inflation and the truck's ride quality seriously degrades and every little bump is over-exaggerated. 35 PSI should be the minimum you run when on road.

I chalk tested my baja boss E load and the came out to 24 psi. I'm trying 28 psi now to see if I get better mpg city driving. Chalk test is the only way I go when it comes to non stock size tires on any of my cars.
