How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Feeling a little sore because I drove by the dealer where I bought my Limited at MSRP about a month back... they have four Limiteds on the lot right now with writing on the windshield indicating anywhere from $1900 to $3000 below MSRP.

Those hurt bro but you gotta just let it go and not tax your enjoyment, move on and have fun, you'll kick the next one!

This is the dealer who insisted that "the market has changed", "no one is selling lower than MSRP", and "MSRP was their best offer". Guess I should have shopped around but wanted to keep the sale local. Either the market softened tremendously in 30 days, or they always had room to move that they weren't willing to give.

I know the after-sale surveys are important to the dealers, so I'll be sure to mention the insult and loss of my loyalty when I submit.

The market is rapidly softening though from what I am seeing as I research a replacement for my 2020 Rover right now. I am seeing more and more vehicles with at least $1 to $3k off MSRP along with incentives and promotional financing returning.

Of course, the EV market is particularly running up inventory right now. Dealers in general seem to be hoping people will still overpay for cars even as their inventory situation has rapidly changed over the last 6 months or so.

Some of it may just be clearing out the '23 model year now, but there are deals to be had on '24s already too.

Dealers seem more flexible in the VA/MD area. Picked up an ORP w/ Kdss for $2000 off msrp (no dealer addons) in northern VA last week.

I'm in NoVA as well and looking to move on a new or used Pro. New they are still at 5k+ adm and some of these clowns are selling used 21 Pros for close to new $?? I found 23 solar octane allocation at MSRP, but then saw fine print and it had crazy dealer add ons (ceramic coating, etc) that was basically the adm.

I think you’re going to continue to see that on the Pro. At least they’re giving you some stuff for the markup they’re charging.

I initially wanted the Pro, with the exception of the goofy roof rack. I landed on an Off Road Premium with KDSS and proceeded to make my own Pro. The money I saved on model choice allowed me to nicely customize the ORP. Just something to consider.

Agreed. I think the ORP is the better move cost wise. Pros are always going to be held at a premium. Only reason I'd spend more on a Pro is the color which certainly does help resale value down the line if you're worried about that. The specialty colors always keep value. They do also add smiles per gallon. A $5k "markup" on a Solar Octane is probably a drop in the bucket down the line, especially if they are giving you something for it.

For anyone a little sad that they bought a new 2023 earlier this year and are seeing prices below MSRP offered, here's a little solace: MSRP rose $600 on May 1st. It also rose $750 on January 1st. If you bought at MSRP last December and are seeing $1,000 off new ones now, you're still ahead. Especially if you financed, you got a lower rate than buyers are getting now.

Folks hate on the Pro with the argument it's not worth it versus the Offroad Premium, but a Pro in a specialty color from a MSRP dealer is a smoking deal...

I paid right at MSRP for mine in November 2019 (just under $51K at that point). I have a buy back offer in hand from a local dealership for $44K (which I do not plan on exercising :)).

Only $7K of depreciation in 4 years and 50K miles is nuts. If I had paid $5K to $10K in mark-up though; not such a great deal.

My Land Rover meanwhile has lost over $25K of value from what I paid for it in 3.5 years... I wish my wife would have just wanted a 2nd 4Runner :).

Msrp

I wanted a 4runner before they changed it with the coming update, so we ordered a 2023 TRD-PRO from a local dealer we've used in the past back in October of 2022. Received it in April 2023 and paid sticker for it, which I have NEVER done. But, we knew this was a unique situation and PRO's were very hard to come by here (and still are). All the other dealers in the area (60 mile radius) were $10k over sticker. Fortunately our relationship with the dealer as a solid customer, and they as a solid dealer, was advantageous. So far, we are very happy and confident in the purchase. Love the PRO.

Same. Msrp for a pro. Slow arduous effort but so far I like everything except the 14.4 MPG at 82 mph...dayum!

I think they have also continued to constantly raise the MSRP so now they can give the appearance of a discount.

Interest rates up = selling prices down. Not just cars, houses too.
The market is quite different from a year ago, supply is better now, interest rates not so much.
If you are paying cash, negotiated prices are better now than a year ago.

When the rig is stock, you can either have 80mph+ or 20mpg+, but not really both at the same time. My average over 4500 miles is 21mpg; city, highway, traffic jams, and plenty of offroad low range fun and all. I've gotten 24-25mpg on a number of 200-400 mile drives. But I've never cruised in the 80mph range. I find the truck a lot more pleasant to drive, and a lot less thirsty, in the low 70's.

Buying at MSRP is nothing to be ashamed of. Buying above MSRP is a different story, and in some cases, it simply is what it is. Or, you have the expendable cash and you want it first and so you go it.

Enjoy your purchase, you can't change it now. The best thing you can do is consider potential lessons learned. You couldn't have changed the market, but maybe you could have changed your timing? November/December is an easy way to get $1k off. Maybe you needed a vehicle now and that was not an option. You mentioned you didn't shop around... Physically, I didn't either, all i did was some quick online shopping (cars.com) of new 4runner (insert your model) and mentioned the prices i saw at other dealers to get another $2k off of my purchase. Live and learn, it's not a big deal, congrats on your new purchase!! Focus on how you want to take care of your baby!

Posted this before, but it's pretty simple math. The air force pushing against your vehicle increases exponentially with velocity. For a like to like comparison driving at 80 mph vs 70 mph results in a ~30% increase in drag for a ~15% increase in speed. This doesn't take into account the reality that in most circumstances, choosing to drive at 80mph+ will result in you catching up to the next group of traffic, losing speed, and then reaccelerating.

I've averaged 19.8 mpg over 37k miles. Long trips I generally drive speed limit + 5 with rare excursions over 75 mph. Day to day driving with traffic lights, i still drive speed limit + 5 but i pay close attention to traffic and lights to minimize changes in speed.

I got my 23 Solar Octane Pro at about $2500 over MSRP. They don't call it "mark up" but a package that they provided. Paint protection / interior protection / lifetime powertrain warranty and 10yrs free roadside. Since this was one of the only Solar Octane Pro's within 250 miles at the time I grabbed it. It was literally in transit to the dealer and the buyer wasn't able to secure his financing and I was able to lock it in. It was delivered to the dealer and I picked it up 2 days later. I'm in WA and had to go to Oregon to get it. The only local one actually on the lot was $12K over MSRP. For me it was all about the signature color as orange is my favorite color. They did pretty good on my trade in which was a 2021 Venture. All in all I'm pretty happy, but I was going in knowing under MSRP on this particular vehicle wasn't going to be an option.

I bought my 2023 ORP in December for MSRP. Some options and most I like having.

One thing I noticed is the base price for mine was $45,230 in December 2022 with deliver/processing/handling fee of $1,335. I looked at some new dealer listings and the Toyota website today and the price for the 2023 ORP increased mid-model year to $46,580 + $1,395. So this is an increase of $1,410 for the same model year which I think is quite significant. Curious to see where the 2024 models will be priced at.

Yep, it's the theoretical drag equation, and just as you said, the velocity (V) is squared:

D = Cd * A * .5 * rho * V^2

Yes, mid-model year price increases have been significant. They were:

$750 increase across the board effective January 1 2023

$600 increase across the board effective May 1 2023

This is a fairly good deal right or am I missing something ?
