2011 Limited Question

I have about 62000 miles on my 2011 T4R Limited and it is definitely time to change the original tires (Yokohama Geos). I looked through most of the threads on this topic but was unable to find an answer to the specific question that I have (I might have missed something and if so- I apologize in advance).

The question is- Given how expensive new Yokohamas are and the limited choices out there, is there another tire size that I can put on without having to resort to changing the LE wheels?

Most posts that I saw about this topic seemed to deal with people who actually changed their wheels to TE or SR5 wheels for a better tire choice.

Any advice is sincerely appreciated.
CJ

Depending on your intended use there are a number of possibilities but if your looking for something close to stock alot of guys are going with the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. You can go to tirerack.com and lookup all tires with stock specs but this has been discussed to death and i'd try looking through a number of the limited tire threads...

CJ:

I'm facing a similar issue and there are numerous threads on this topic so I'd suggest doing a search. With that said, my 2010 LE still has the OEM Yokohamas (245/60/20) on them. I have 56,000 miles and they have proven to be a reliable, well-wearing tire. With that said, the price of a new set of Yoko's is obscene to say the least and the alternative option (Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's) are dog shit.

You'll find that most LE owners have elected to put on 275/55/R20's. Not only does this open up tire selection options but overall, the look of the vehicle improves. This is the avenue that I have chosen as I will be replacing the Yoko's shortly (60K miles). I see that you live in PA (I'm on the Delaware river) so our weather conditions will be the same. I've owned Tundra's in the past and had excellent success with NITTO tires on them. As such, I'll be ordering the Nitto NT 421Q's (Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct) which have excellent ratings for almost all weather conditions but most importantly to me, SNOW. Another good choice I've found are the Continental CrossContact LX20's.

If you're uncomfortable with the increased tire size and dimensional change, I suggest going with 255/55/20 for increased selection.

I hope this helps you.

you could try some +zero fitments for 245/60-20 :

265/60-20
275/55-20
285/50-20
285/55-20

edit forgot to add, be very mindful of the tire width.

How many miles do you drive? If you're okay losing a mile a gallon, go with A/T Nitto Terra Grapplers. See the thread in the link below for a visual...

TKO125- A quick follow up question- do you expect to see a drop in mileage with the Nittos? Have others experienced this?

I have a 2012 Limited with the stock 245/60/20 Yoko's which are due to be replaced in about 15k more miles. I was at my local Toyota dealership a couple weeks ago having my oil changed. As the service tech walked out to get the mileage on my 4R, I noticed that he stopped and looked at my tires and wheels for a few seconds. I have plasti dipped my wheels black and have put on SpiderTrax 1.25" wheel spacers so I guess that caught his attention. When he came back in, the first thing he said was you know you can put the bigger tires that come on the Sequoia which are 275/55/20 on your 4Runner. He said it will fill in the wheel well nicely, won't rub the fender, and I won't need to use the spacers. He said they have installed that size on several and his co-worker beside him said his wife's 4R Limited has the 275/55/20s on it and it's made a real difference for the better. I also asked him if having a 7" wide wheel was a problem and he said it wasn't. He was recommending the Michelin LTX M/S2 tire and even printed me a quote for them to order and install the tires.

Anyways, just wanted to share that experience so take it FWIW. You should get the tire and size you feel most comfortable with and gives you peace of mind.

Just wanted to let all of you know that taking your advice, I decided to go with Michelin LTX Ms2 275 55 20 tires. Anyone has experience with these?

New Michelins 275-55-20 pleased so far!

Thank you to all of you for your input. I ended up going with the Michellin MS2 and am very pleased with the tires! Quiet, smooth and I have NOT noticed any drop in mpgs. The tires fill out the wheel well nicely. Pics attached!

NICE! Sorry chime in late here but I had the same decision a few months ago. I think the reality here is that you need to be honest with yourself. Do you want to spend the money on A/T tires that you may run on the pavement more or just be honest and get some boring looking All Seasons.

I made the hard choice to go All Season since that is really what I drive and the fact that I would just kill some A/T tires. I just got stock size Bridgestone Dueler HT. Offroading in Western NY is not exactly easy here. We have so few trails to run on and most are cut for those little Wranglers. I think next go around I will change over to 17" wheels and tires.

Hope you enjoy the new shoes!
