Very simple question: why are low-beams in a protective case but high-beams aren't?

I don't really have much further to say. If you need clarity about my question, please feel free to reply.

I just changed some bulbs in my Limited and noticed the low beams have the protective case which requires you to remove a plastic cover to access the bulbs. The high beams did not have this. Does anyone have any insight?

And yes, I did try searching around the internet and this forum but I didn't find anything that provided a thorough response. Thanks in advance.

I think you are talking about a projector vs a regular reflector housing.

Projectors are used to focus the light and provide a distinct cut off. You don't typically need that for high beams as they are not used with other vehicles on the road.

The older 2010 - 2013 5th gens had reflectors for both low and high beams.. and they actually worked very well. Projectors are generally required for HIDs or LEDs due to the intensity, but I think the 5th gen projectors are actually designed for halogens (although I'm sure you can run HIDs or LEDs with no major problems for other vehicles. Pretty sure it is technically illegal in some state... but very rare to get hassled if you have projectors.
