Based on your username, I assume you had a bad experience with an e60 5 series? I'll admit the twin turbo BMW's have issues with HPFP and injectors and wastegates, however they have a 10 year 120k mile warranty on them and the parts aren't too pricey or hard to do yourself after.

e30('s), e32, e36, e60, f10

e60 and f10 both had shit quality interiors, the e30, e32 and e36 interiors were still in great shape at the end of their life (sold at 250k+, 300k+ and ~180k respectively) but both the e60 and f10 had problems that started around 60k and really picked up at 100k. clips started deciding to no longer clip, seals started to no longer seal, adhesives started to no longer adhese, etc...

they don't make them like they used to, and you're at the age where things start falling apart

I can 100% agree with you that new BMW's are not up to par with the older ones. I do also agree that the interiors of the F10 and E60 are not worth the price the cars cost. Not sure what happened but the 5 series got the shit end of the deal. Our 128i really reminds me of the E36/E46 interiors.

Weird. I wonder why. I'm about as OCD as can be over rattles/noises. I drove my 2010 to 90k and it was the most rattle-free vehicle I've ever owned. The new one is too, but less than 5k so far.

I find all this talk about the BMW's interesting. I don't nor have I ever owned a BMW 5 series, but I have a lot of friends that do and I also always cross shop BMW's against Mercedes, though clearly Mercedes for me at least has always edged out on top. So, what I find interesting is that most of my friends who have Mercs or BMW's always say the E60's handle better than the Mercedes W211 and that had been true of 5 series over E-classes pretty consistently going back from there. Then suddenly the F10 and the W212 came out and magically the E class out handled the 5 series... this has been discussed in my friend circle quite a lot. like to death. meanwhile no one has ever mentioned the interiors... hmmm I owned a W212 and loved simply everything about it. though have never taken issue with a BMW interior while riding with others.

I am extremely OCD but as soon as it got cold, rattles everywhere. For whatever reason this car I am okay with having rattles or scratches on the interior, I guess it being an off road vehicle makes me not care as much?

The F10 is so floaty that we get car sick in the backseat whenever we ride in it. Everyone in the family hates that car including him. My mother in-law won't drive anything but a Benz or a Vette.

BMW is silent, no rattles and the trim is much nicer and doesn't scratch, paint is much better quality as well. Doors feel solid when shutting, 4runner sounds hollow. My Father in-laws BMW feels the same way as my wifes.

I still love the 4runner and it will outlast the BMW, but realistically it isn't a better built vehicle outside of the engine and transmission and BMW inline 6's are pretty awesome and her's is a 6 speed manual that is pretty solid as well.

Think you missed the point. It's about reliability. Not about whose paint is stronger and who uses better quality interior components.

Exactly. They state it's not that refined. I don't consider the 4Runner to be a super luxurious, refined, vehicle.

Well my experience with the BMW has been the same reliability as my Lexus gave me.

I did buy the 4runner for it's reputation and resale though and wouldn't of picked any German or American vehicle over it in the 40-50k price range. I'm pretty sure I could fill my tank up with Tito's and it would run fine.

It's part of what makes it fun to drive to me. It isn't fast or handle well, but it puts a smile on my face every single time I drive it. And after I gave it the PRO treatment on the outside, I catch people staring as I drive by a lot more than any luxury car I've owned.

Sorry I didn't realize you were replying to a comment about a BMW. I thought you were saying like "how is the 4runner #1? Mine rattles and scratches easy". I wasn't paying attention.

Same I paid $36,000.00 for my 4Runner and there was nothing even if I bought used going back to say 2014 that came close to off road abilities except the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon... no thanks!! if I had wanted to pay double I guess I could have gotten a G Wagen... again, no thanks not considering I got the 4Runner scratched in two places and covered in mud in the first 10 days I owned it!!

Friend sold his 4runner for a G wagon, after 10 months, he decided it wasn't worth the hype and bought an LC200.

yeah I'm just saying in that price point there is no better. I am sure he paid more for the LC and the G wagen than 36k. the only European vehicle that comes close I guess would be like a 2014 Land Rover LR4... so about reliability, yeah no not that. Also, I really am finding I love my 4Runner even more than I thought I would, it rocks!

See the 3 makes me miss my 2010 6 w/ the V6. That was a fun sedan to drive. I put 95K miles on it in 4.5 years before I lost it to a head gasket blowing. I'm pretty sure it happen due to the accident I got but everyone who had looked at the vehicle said they don't think it did. Everything happens for a reason though: 3 years later I'm in the 4Runner. No complaints.

Anyway, any chance the Jeep Wrangler is on the list (lol)? I've kind of been shopping those and just recently started cross shipping the T4R. This is another tick in the T4R column.

I've never seen a site with so much advert, but I waded through it. 1 Nissan, 1 Mazda, 3-4 Hondas, rest Toyota/Lexus. I shoulda made a list.

Thanks. It's a shame no domestic brands made the list.

I normally take these things with a grain of salt, but it seems like the same results over and over.

I really want to love the Jeep, but as I get older and more practical reliability is becoming more important to me than coolness. The Jeep is undeniably a cooler vehicle, but I don't trust it to not become a POS by 100k miles.

I feel like I could get a 4R and easily drive it to 200k miles with nothing but routine maintenance.
