Baja Flat Rack Concerns - Toyota 4Runner Forum

I installed my rack a few months ago with no issues during installation. Today while at lunch I decided to check how the weather stripping was holding up with the rack on it. What I noticed is that on the driver side the mounts were nearly flush with the pillar while on the passenger side the mounts were nearly resting on the roof of my T4R. To the best of my knowledge I dont recall noticing this during the install. I have yet to have any leaks from the rack and it isnt at all noticeably off center from the front of the vehicle. Should I have any concerns about future leaks or damage to my vehicle?

wasnt there an issue and they sent out new spacers and brackets.

To that Im not sure. My rack was purchased November/December-ish of 2017.

Your rack is new enough it will have the upgraded feet. You can expect some crushing of the weather seal over time. Mine was on there for 3 1/2 years before I pulled it to install one from SSO. I had no issues with leaks even using the older feet, and all of the seals were pretty much flattened. You may try to see if you can tighten the bolts that little bit to allow for the settling of the seals. Probably won't even take 1/4 turn. And as always, despite your description, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The issue was the feet pressed on the roof skin and dented it, not a seal.

I know. It was also a year or more ago. This rack was made 5 months ago.

that foam compressed over time. tighten it down. or you can go out and replace it with new 3m or that flextape which is what i used.
i do check it from time to time and if need be reposition it. i also have a complete extra set of mount spacers and new tape if i ever have to replace it. and flex shot the holes or any silicone.
