Has anyone mounted xenon driving lights in fog light location?

I wish the headlights were lower and was thinking about using the fog light location for HID driving lights, has anyone already done this?

I want something that gives good range in a similar pattern to low-beam headlights just much lower than the factory headlight locations.

Some states regulate headlight height from the ground, so be mindful, if you care about that sort of thing. Or blinding oncoming drivers..

i'm not using them to replace my headlights, they will be supplemental. my state has no requirements to cover accessory lights or anything like that.

If they're HID driving lights, they're no longer accessory lights.

ETA: I'm not saying I care what you do, just informing you, to the best of my knowledge.

my state has no such distinction, they are all "auxiliary driving lamps"

*except light bars, those are called out specifically and are not allowed to be used on the road

You gotta be careful what you put in the fog pocket. The lenses are plastic and will melt.

not sure if HIDs will cause that to happen, but I've seen them melt a few times on here.

my thought was to remove the existing fog lights and use a bracket in it's place, something similar to the rigid fog lights bracket. i know there are some 3-4" lights, the bigger part is figuring out how to mount them in the socket that's why i was asking if anyone had already done it

Ah, I misread your original post, and thought you were just asking about just dropping in HID bulbs.

If you really want some bright ass lights, you could get the BD kit. It's plug and play, looks factory, is LED, and will light shit up big time. I wouldn't recommend using them around other vehicles though.

I dont wsnt bright foreground though, i want driving lights with a narrow projector pattern so I can use them without blinding other people

just slap in some a good set of led h11's into the fog lights and call it a day.

I dropped in some PHILLIPS LEDs for my fogs and Xneon Depot HIDs for my headlights. The LED fogs are as bright and white as my HIDs.

Especially for a lifted 4Runner - this is where the headlights SHOULD be. I haven't had time to do it yet, but it's on my list of to-do's. I've had a major home remodel going for a the last year or so and I've put off almost all 4R projects. However - I think you could have much better lighting performance with HIDs at that level compared to in the OEM headlights of a lifted 4Runner. Mostly due to the aiming problem. High headlights = relatively steep angle down to the road = short illuminated road distance. Low headlights = closer to flat light aim = better distance.

I was going to just put a mini-bullet retrofit kit with bi-zenon projectors in the fogs. I have an extra set of OEM fog housings read to go. Just haven't had time to do it yet. Not sure what to do wiring wise. Probably just rely on fog switch plus a secondary push button to operate the servo for offroad use.

I have the XD HIDs, they are better than stock but because the headlights are so high you cant really take full advantage of them without blinding other drivers. If I can get good driving lights lower I might even swap the low beams back to stock halogen bulbs.

The pattern is all wrong for what I want, I have plenty of light in the foreground I want to project light down the road in a pattern similar to low beams

i have these installed on my wifes forester and does a really great job and has a nice cut off line.

i know Rigid industries has DOT approved foglights. also i think Cali Raised LED might have dot approved fog lights but im not quite sure. they are a lot cheaper than rigid.

offroad use only i would recommend Baja squadrons sport but if you want it a lot brighter you'll want the pro series.

Have you tried to aim your lowbeams lower? That will help project the light lower.
It sounds like you want to fill the lighting gap where the lowbeams starting projecting to the front of the car? You could always try to aim the factory fogs higher as well with leds installed.

I have Hella Micro DE fogs. Aftermarket bumper so you’d have to figure a bracket solution, but it’s a small, magnesium housed projector fog. They also make a driving beam pattern, in both halogen or hid. Inter-webs people
say the halogen versions take hid bulbs with very good results (ie maintains sharp cutoff). Hope that helps.

^^ lower is the opposite of what I want, I want the low beams to be able to have a higher/flatter beam but cant because they are too high.
