Interior Overhead Fishing Rod Holder

After looking through all the fishing threads for ideas (thanks to all those who offered them up!), I installed my own version of the interior rod holder setup. Supplies (2) wally world expandable car clothes rods (1) 12' X 3/4" cut to length roll of velcro strap (the kind with hook on one side and loop on the other). I made the fastening loops on the rear bar by simply using two pieces of the velcro strap, one to hold the loop to the clothes rod and one to hold the rod handle. You just undo the hanging loop, place the tip over the front clothes rod, lift rod handle up, and Velcro the loop around the handle. On the front clothes rod, I used loops to hold a flat length of the velcro to the top middle area. Rod tips angle in to the center area and lay on the flat velcro, I then use a long flat piece to lay over the rod tips and push down in between each one and they stay put in their own little space!!! Simple, mobile, removable, and I plan to add two more loops on each end of the rear to easily carry 7 rods total. The rods in the pics are 6'6" and 7’; the larger reels are 6500 size spinfishers. don't know why the last pic is sideways...
Happy fishing!

Thanks for posting this! I’ve only had my T4R for 10 days and hadn’t really thought about what I would do with my fishing rods. Normally they go in rod holders on our boat, but this will work perfectly for the days when I’m wade or kayak fishing.

Here's a pic of my rod holder:

Well, the model I'd like to upgrade to at least.

could easily move the front holder or even add a holder to the middle oh shit handles. I was trying to eliminate the need to break them down for travel and free up my cargo space for gear. I think the max length on my setup would probably be 7.5 or maybe 8', but the tips would be at the windshield.

not sure it will work in a car, but works great for me in the runner! I've done some long road trips with 7 rods overhead and it worked great!!

This is awesome. I was just about to start looking for ideas since getting my 4r a few months ago. I do a lot of kayak fishing and transporting 4+ rods can be a PITA on longer trips with a lot of other gear. Do you know for sure this would fit 7.5'-8' rods? most of mine are around 7' but I have two rods I fish regularly that are 7.5'.

I don't think you would have a problem. I believe my longer rods are 7.5', pretty sure you could get 8' in there. the whole setup only cost me $30.

At $30 its completely worth it even if it doesn't fit an 8' rod I only use half a dozen times if not less. Will definitely be doing this before spring. Might even get away with being able to use the back bar to hold ice fishing rods too if velcro is placed right.

Awesome post and something I'll have to do here shortly as I certainly don't want my rods on the floor where they are vulnerable to getting broken. I also like the idea of not having to break the rods down so I can grab them and go. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the specific clothes racks from Wally world you bought? If not, no worries as I'm sure I can find something that works.
